In countries were abortion is illegal it's only possible to estimate the abortion rate through indirect means, like street inquires or when women get to the hospital with health complications. For instances, in Portugal voluntary abortion become legal early this year and there's already the conclusion that the number of abortions is half of the expected. Wrong estimates?

I guess in countries were abortion is legal there's more investment in the prevention of unwanted pregancies, where in countries where it's not the system trusts more in the ilegal status to disencourage it. Another possible factor is the fact that population in Europe is getting older and the governments are giving financial support to stimulate people to reproduce. Less newborns but less abortions for economical reasons?

Possibly that's because those who have been harmed by choosing abortion are getting more vocal about their experience and not because abortion is legal. If legal abortions were the case, they probably wouldn't have been on the rise for years before the declines.

Thank God that women are either getting pregnant less, taking options other than killing their kids, or other things that I won't mention so as to not appear crass.

The more developed countries have more options other than abortion. I would say.
