Your question has too many variables to give you an exact answer!

First of all, the location is going to be a serious factor in the cost. Property costs much more in some areas than others.

Are you talking about a new car dealership, or a used car lot? A new car dealership will need a service area and storage for the parts department! A used car dealership may or may not have a service department, and if the do it is usually smaller!

Are you planning on having a body shop as part of the dealership? How many cars to you expect to sell in a month? You will need to have parking / display space for at least 3 times that many vehicles, along with additional parking for employee's and customer's vehicles!

If you are looking in a highly populated area, you may pay a million dollars or more for the property. You can easily spend that much again on the building, parking and shop equipment!

Without more information I can not give you a more specific answer!

Nice Car Dealership

It is impossible to say how much with so little information from you. Do you want to have a new or used dealership? New car franchises specify what your property would look like. Local governments have codes that may be so nitpicky as to say how much of your lot must be landscaped with a specific number, size, and type of plants. It costs money to be a franchisee of new cars, and each manufacturer is different. Are you going to build your showroom from the ground up? Only a contractor in your area can give you a price. Are you going to purchase property or lease? How many vehicles do you want in inventory? Trust me, I am only scaratching the surface here. So I am going to have to answer 'a lot'.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok

I started my little used car dealership with under $40,000 out of pocket. I am leasing the lot, but had to get licensed, landscaped, bonded, insured, and purchase inventory. I have about 10 vehicles I own on the lot plus consignments. My lot is gravel, and it will be another $15,000 for asphalt later. Hope it helps.

If you really want to build a dealership, you should be asking how much time you have to invest. Thats what will make a "really nice dealership" If you are willing to spend your every waking hour, not have any family time or time with your friends, always be so broke that meal times are at best, questionable. Then in 10 or 20 years you will have a "really nice dealership" It takes commitment. The bank has the money. You spend the Blood, sweat and tears. P.S. Most manufacturers have programs available to begin your dealership. Don't start to big. Grow big.

the first thing it's going to cost is YOUR GOOD NAME and REPUTATION.

but you can prevent this by being not just a good car salesperson, but by having a 'from the ground up' working ethics policy at work, at home, and at play.

only hire folks who have this quality built into them, and trust them to do the right thing.

hire an honest mechanic - and let him be honest with the customers.

be quietly honest - folks don't trust someone who tells them they are honest... let someone else spread that news...

do the extras - send thank you notes to all the folks who not only buy a car but those who come to look and leave there name... not a 'thanks for coming to our grand opening - here's a coupon for $$$ off your next car' but just a simple thank you note.

send flowers to the couple who is buying their first car together and include a certificate for a dinner at a nice local restaurant... they will be back when they need to upgrade to the 'family car' then toss in a car seat... they will bring the kid in to get his first car...

put family first - if your family is important to you your customers will know you know how important their family is to them... and that you wouldn't sell them something you would not put your own family into...

help out the local low income folks... there are car donation foundations all over - pay your mechanic for a sat to go over and fix these cars at cost so someone can have a reliable car to get to work - they will repay you in a year or so when they come to get a new car...

this is the cost of a nice car dealership

Depends on weather you want to sell new or used..If you go new, then you have to build to specific requirements of the manufacturer that you will be selling for..If your going used,im not sure what you call nice..NC DMV says you have to have a 15x15 sales office and that could be made real nice..So, it really depends on your goal.
