Three ways to get a PA degree:
1.Go to a school that gives a Bachelors in PA studies (this is about 4-5 years). These are diminishing as most programs are becoming...
2. Masters program. You get your bachelors in anything (usually a science) and then apply to a PA program (which grants a masters)--this is usually 2 years after a BS. This is the most prevalent type of program now.
3. Some of the older programs are just a PA program (may not be many left like this)--you have their requirements to get in & you do the 2 year course and you can take the certifying exam (but you do not get an additional degree).
No reason to get a Masters first and then go to PA school.

Here is the website for the US occupational outlook handbook: www.bls.gov/oco and search 'physician assistant' or such. I believe that there are programs at both the bachelor's and master's degree level though not all PA schools offer both options.
For US colleges: www.utexas.edu/world/univ

thank you US..for a balanced answer. The question which has threat for progression into different fields is slightly puzzling as you bypass to college to do drugs in many circumstances and don't probably strengthen into different factors (different than perhaps coaching or managerial form stuff. Do you advise progression into different specialties of medicine? if so, a PA is extra poised to bypass into different specialties as they want when you consider that PA coaching is often generalist with any specialization after commencement, while NPs are often experienced completely in one field (Pediatric NP, GYN NP etc). This of direction is a generic fact, some persons can constantly amplify previous. PAs and NPs can oftentimes be used interchangeably in kinfolk practice different than in factors the place a uniqueness NP has no coaching. the biggest distinction is the autonomy subject, yet truly, as a midlevel, I have not got any desire to bypass into practice on my own. The rfile is a welcome backup, will pay the charges, grants a 2nd opinion, and takes the malpractice hump. you're additionally terrific suited, your obligations as a PA are tremendously lots what you're gentle with, what the rfile enables you to do, and what you're experienced for (the regulation is fairly obscure on the genuine description). they're paid much less as a results of fact they shoulder much less malpractice burden and characteristic much less education (permit's not lose sight of the reality that each and everyone midlevels did not bypass to medical college); perhaps in some circumstances you're extra ideal than the MD by potential of way of journey etc; yet in actuality he or she is often the captain. Hours and time table selection in accordance to the pastime--its all over the map; well being facility-based, hospital, inner maximum workplace, etc. the effective element approximately it truly is you may tremendously lots hit upon a activity that suits precisely what hours you want (different than you frequently could artwork some holiday journeys). I artwork basically interior the summers now, as a tourist, I %. the form of shifts (10 to 12 hour) i choose in line with how lots $ i choose that week (the time table is a loose-for all check in). previously, I worked basically 2 to 3 - 12 hour shifts a week interior the ER and those days became around witht the different PAs there. terrific element is to objective and shadow a selection of of of each for a week or so & get a sense for it. terrific!

You can get your PA after getting your undergraduate degree - the master's degree isn't necessary.
PA is a three year course of study, and is generally taught at a medical school.
You can continue with that foundation to get your doctorate with two more years of school, and then do your internship, residency, etc.
