Sales Tax is up to the individual states. Go to an individual state's website, look up their Dept. of Revenue and search for Sales & Use Tax. It is also referred to as SALT.

I presume that "CA" refers to "Canada", in which case, I'm at a loss to understand why you put the question under "United Kingdom" as opposed to "Canada", unless you're a resident and/or work in both, or if "CA" is the abbreviation for a British county or city, of which I am unaware.
