Pretty sure it means something's gone wrong, but what does the "pear shaped" mean?
Thanks

'Em' has given a good description, although I'm not quite sure if the term began in the glass industry.
I was led to believe it came into use from the Royal Air Force in the 1940's, when pilots were attempting to perform aerial manoeuvres such as loops. As these are difficult to form perfectly, and are usually out of shape, the term 'Pear Shaped' was used to describe them.

A sphere is a regular shape whereas a pear is irregular therefore a plan or idea which is formulated initially seems to be a regular idea (or shape) but when things go wrong it becomes distorted and takes on an irregular shape such as a pear. Sorry, cannot be more specific. It is just an expression we Brits understand without thinking too deeply of where it originated. Thats my story anyway and I'm sticking to it.

It does mean its all gone wrong. The pear shaped bit is meaning something small has turned into something worse.

It just means that things haven't gone to plan - not sure why its 'pear shaped' as opposed to any other shape but thats all it means.

The Arch Angel Murphy has struck, all your meticulous planning has gone to hell and back.

Imagine the British Government; they have marvellous think tanks, make marvellous plans, but forget that they are dealing with People.

Whoops! deep do-do; It's all gone wrong. Lets raise taxes to pay for it.
