I have a Psychiatrist and a counselor. The Psychiastrist prescribes the medicine because the counselor can't. I called to ask if my pschiatrist could return my call because I have a question about my meds. He wants me to change meds from Cymbalta to Triavil. Keep in mind when I see him he is located on my side of town the other days he works on another side of town. I wanted to speak to him but I was told I have to wait until he's on side my side town next Tuesday. I think this is so crazy because I was told he doesn't return calls and I have to wait to speak to him next week.

Psychiatrists are overworked. Mine is, but he still returns my calls usually. If he doesn't the secretary asks another psychiatrist to talk to me. Your pharmacist can probably answer your question. You know they don't just count pills.

A good psychiatrist should be available to answer your questions within a day or two at least. Try asking if they have a nurse available that can answer your questions, or talk to a pharmacist. Of course this depends on if the question is really pressing. If you are asking say... why you feel extreme rage or why you are getting sick, those are a big deal. If you are calling to ask if you can take them later in the day or what foods or medications interact with it- something along those lines, then a pharmacist should definitely be able to help you.

Didn't you ask him questions when he suggested that you change meds? Unless you are having reaction to the meds or its a medical emergency you can probably wait till next week.Your records are at the office where you see him so it would be difficult for him to talk to you without having them in front of him. I dont support a doctor being unavailable so I would talk to him at your next visit to ask what you should do in an emergency if he wont return calls. Tell him how this makes you feel. (Psychiatrists love to hear about feelings!)
