a normal cholesterol level is 4.5, its considered high if over that. cholesterol is made by the liver, some peoples becomes raised through a diet high in fat so a low fat diet would remedy this. some people have an inherited form of high cholesterol which is called hyperlipidemia., which requires medication as diet and exercise alone isnt enough to lower it. i have this form and have been on medication since i was 8yrs old.
i dont think i explained very well what cholesterol does. it leaves fatty deposits in your arteries until they become blocked and you have a heart attack or bypass surgery.best to avoid that if possible.

there are three kinds of cholesterol..
HDL= good
LDL = bad
triglycerides = bad..
it's a form of fat produced by your liver... we all need cholesterol to function properly...too much of the bad stuff is a problem.. it sticks to the inside of you arteries and clogs them... leading to stroke, heart attack, bad circulation and so on..
here are a few NON MEDICATION remedies which work really well..
OATMEAL... not the instant stuff, but the large flake, long cooking one... (about 15 minutes)
and squeezing one lemon into a glass of water... (no sugar).... drink three a day.. and you will see the results the next time you have a blood test.
exercise helps as well

cholesterol is a normal part of everyone's bloodstream. too much of the wrong kind can cause heart attack or stroke. it clogs the blood vessels so blood can't flow correctly. eating right and getting exercise can help lowering the bad and raising the good.

Definately see your doctor. How do you know it is high?
I am a diabetic and had high cholesteral. There are two types of cholesteral one good, the other bad. The bad one is called LDL. I had LDL of 6.5, my doctor put me on pills called STATINS. This almost immediately reduced LDL to 1.7 which means I will probably die of something other than stroke or heart desease. I hope of merryment.
