First we had DVD players.
Then we had DVD recorders.
Then we had DVD recorders with HDD.

The same process will happen for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (depending on which one wins the 'format war', of course...).

No because a Blu Ray player is the only type of DVD Player to accept and play a Blu-Ray Disc. HD is a different format and so is a standard DVD player. If you want to play a standard (every day) DVD, you can play it on a Blu Ray disc player. The Blu Ray player is said to be downward compatible. This meaning that the Blu Ray player plays Blu Ray and also standard, (which came before it), DVD's. Hope This Helps!

A HD-DVD/Blu-Ray is a type of dvd, hard disk is totally different thing. Maby they will be available as combined units

HD DVD players will. they do say that the HD SKY BOX records to its hard drive standard and high definition programmes already.
