I think you meant to say "so many," am I right?
The problem is, people everywhere include the corrupt, money hungry and immoral, but we don't expect it in religious leaders. Why we don't is naivete, for the most part, since people are more vulnerable in religious matters than almost anywhere else (and there are corrupt psychologists and police officers, too, just to cover the most obvious abuses of power).
Time to get a copy of "Elmer Gantry," either the book or the movie, and remind yourself that this corruption is not new, although it is more obvious today with such pervasive mass communication.
The way to put the corrupt ones out of business is simply not give them money, don't fall for their schemes, and think for yourself. And unfortunately, too many Americans are either unable or unwilling to do that.

I think you can find corrupt, money hungry, immoral people regardless of whether they are religious or not. That doesn't make the religion bad - just the person.

Because as a religious leader you have so much power over your congregation. Maybe that kind of power should only be in God's hands because once people get a taste of it, it becomes the most corrupting and addictive thing on earth.

This is true of some leaders of every calling. Power corrupts...
Most religious leaders are good, decent people whose main goal is the welfare of their congregations. Some fail in their responsibilities.
But again, that's true in religion, politics, business, and any other area of human relationships one can imagine.

often religious leaders may start off humble but seeing the power they have on the masses they lead they often become like the politicians- corrupt, sexually deviant, arrogant etc. They are usually surrounded by a group of feeders who jack them up. It takes a real strong person to be humble and subservient under these circumstances

I Peter 2:2-3 "And many shall follow their pernicious (destructive) ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of (blasphemed)."..3..."And through covetousness ( lusts) shall they with feigned (deceptive) words make merchandise(exploit) of you......" This speaks of the last day anti-Christ spirit. There are good leaders, but they don't get the headlines because they are not popular with the masses. Remember, "..narrow is the way that leader unto life, and few there be that find it."

That's a pretty broad judgemental over-generalization.
I could ask the same KIND of question, "Why do are non-believers mockers, scoffers, rebellious against God and wicked through and through and judgemental against everyone who doesn't believe the way they do?"
So, quit tearing down your straw men and get some facts for a change. It only makes you look foolish! (By the way, there's a sign taped to your back saying "Kick me!" - people are laughing at you behind your back, and I'm the only one kind enough to tell you about it.)

All religious leaders are not. You just hear about in the media (true or false) about the ones that are.

I only know this:
Jesus Christ taught us to love our neighbors. Can anyone argue that the world would not be a better place if we all followed this greatest commandment? I am a Catholic, which means I am a Christian above all else. I hope everyone can follow this teaching of Jesus, whether you are Christian or not.
If you would like to know more about my faith, I suggest that you go to Catholic Answers at http://www.catholic.com and then look at the left sidebar: You will see many subjects. You can click on one and see tracts that will answer your questions. Also, the search engine searches 20 years worth of articles from "This Rock" magazine. There are a lot of great articles there too
The"official" Catechism Of The Catholic Church is online at: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/entiretoc1.htm
This is a difficult document to read. (The book is about three inches thick!) But, there is a wealth of information there too if you take the time to learn how to navigate it.
May the Lord our God bless you and keep you, and cause His Face to shine upon you.
