If you are replying to an advertised position, then call them to verify that they received your resume and don't bother them again.
If you have interviewed, then call them back about every couple of weeks.
If I were in HR and you were calling me everyday, I would file your resume too (in the circular file) as I would have better things to do than hold your hand.
If you have sent a resume into a company, then see an advertised position, THEN call them up and see if you need to reapply.

tbodley, from my experiences what turns me off most to new applicants/candidates are those that have no relevance to the position I am recruiting and constantly call me even after I tell them that I will call them when I find something more suitable.
What you need to do: -
- Tailor your CV to each application, every position will have it's own job specification and requirements. HR people tend to just skim through CV's for keywords, so if you can mirror some of your experiences/skills with the key words on the job description and enough of these keywords catch the eye of the HR, you won't need to call them, they will call you.
- Add a covering letter to your application, noone does this anymore and you have no idea how useful they can be. Also write on there that you will contact them in 1 week to find out how your application is going.
- Call them after 1 week, no sooner, no later.
If they give you a "problem in the recruiting procedure/delay in process etc" theyre blowing you off, MOVE ON to the next job application.
Hope it helped

It's all about perception. Did you interview for this job at all? First sign of an interested employer is if they contact you right away.
Also, they may have been turned off by your constant calls. When they say, "we'll call you", they're serious. And if you keep calling them, that will cost you the job as it shows that you don't cooperate with them.
As an applicant, you really should just send a thank you note after the interview and wait.

It could be in part because of changing your jobs to often. Is that what you do, hire on work for a while then quit and get another job? Or have you been fired from some of your jobs? Employers look at your background to determine if you will be a suitable employee. Also they check your criminal records and your credit records as well as your civil records, all these factors go into an employer determining if you will meet their qualifications.
You need to hire on to a job and stay with it for years and years and then you may be able to go out and try job shopping again.
Good luck

I'm in the same boat you are.... and it sucks!!!
If I fax or email my resume I call them 3-4 if I haven't heard anything from them. Just call and tell them that you are checking on a resume that you sent in. They will most likely say that they are still looking over them, and they will give you a call to set up an interview in a few days. After that I wait another 3-4 days, and if I still haven't heard from them I call them again. It never hurts to keep calling... they might think something that isn't true. Like I applied for a part time job at a cat hospital, I would prefer a full time job, but I LOVE cats. They thought that was weird... I dunno?? But best of luck!

Just call once, don't call over and over. Technically you're not supposed to call back but I know how the job market can be sometimes.

Wait 5 business days. Call them and express you concern and interest. If they say they will call you back, they will. If they don't, they don't want you. One call is good, or you seem annoying.

STOP all the contact, it obviously is turning off the employer. Send in your app. and be quiet.
