In the Old Testament are the prophecies that talk about the birth, the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 21:42
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Matthew 22:29
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Luke 24:27
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself
John 5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
1 Corinthians 15:3
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
Also the following verse, by itself, is a good reason to study all of the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Philemon 1:3

It really is more than just that. The Hebrew scriptures (Old Testament) is full of prophecies as well. If you do a study of these prophecies, it helps to strengthen your faith that the prophecies for our day will come true. We also can learn from the past. As the Christian apostle Paul wrote: “Now these things [described in the Old Testament] went on befalling them as examples, and they were written for a warning to us [Christians] upon whom the ends of the systems of things have arrived.”—1Â Corinthians 10:11.
God's personality is unchangeable. We can learn a lot from the history of God’s dealings with the patriarchs, with Israel at the Red Sea and in the wilderness, and with many other people, it helps us to learn what God expects of us. Even the Law covenant, though not binding on Christians, gives us valuable insight into God's personality through its underlying principles.
Can you see the practical counsel in honesty and other matters of human relations in the book of Proverbs? (Proverbs 11:1; 14:30) These books are very beneficial. The problem is, many people just don't take the time to read them.

The Holy Bible is both Old and New Testament, they intertwine together. The Old Testament explains creation, the "old" laws, the miracles God used to free the Jews from Egypt with Moses as leader, the books of prophecy, Proverbs which tells us how to live, Psalms of David.....and Jesus Christ refers to scriptures from the Old Testament when speaking to his disciples. In other words, you cannot have one without the other, the Old and New Testament complete the Bible. My input as a believer.

To remember who we are and where we come from. We are step-chosen, with the Israelites being the chosen people. From the day the Apostles preached when the Holy Spirit descended, we became Christians.

Why do we have history books in our schools? The Old Testament is absolutely loaded with history, as well as prophecy. Have you read it lately? It is extremely interesting.
