The BEST way would be to purchase the new GPS from Garmin that puts a beacon on your dog while you hold the transmitter/locator. Very cool..
Otherwise, fit him with a bell and carry a whistle so he can find his way back to you.

We use an orange vest, and treats. We have never lost a dog for more than a few minutes. They know they are in chance for a treat throughout the hunt when they jump a rabbit and return.

The only real way anyone would ever lose their Beagle is for another Hunters or Hunters to take or steal it.** A Beagle will always return to its owner if permitted & not interfered with.** Experienced Beagle Trainer & Hunter for more years than I care to count.**

Use your neighbors Beagle. Tie a cell phone to his collar. Then call him and tell him to go home. Stand on a hill and wave a bag of doggy treats where the wind can spread the scent.
I can't think of any more.

deckie is right...i don't know why giving him thumbs down is happening...you ALWAYS have your beagle on a leash when your hunting rabbits....its not like pheasant where they fly into the air...rabbits are so quick they could go right by the dog and someone shoots the dog...always have the dog on a leash if your hunting rabbits....a shock collar wont change the rabbits thoughts of where he is going to move around...

If it was properly trained before you took it hunting, to come when called, you should never lose your dog.
