I really think eating together at the dinner table is becoming a rarity. Do you think it is important or do you think just being together is all that matters?

We eat at the table most of the time -- it's something my wife and I insist upon. We feel it's important to spend that time together as a family, and to encourage our son to take an interest in other peoples' days and to tell us about his own.

Sometimes, for a special treat, we'll set up a blanket or small, low table in front of the TV and have a "picnic" dinner in the living room, and pick out some show to watch while we eat. But there's a reason why we do it rarely -- my son sometimes gets so distracted by the show that he forgets to eat, and we end up having to remind him forty-eleven-dozen times or pausing the show until he puts fork to mouth...

Table signifies the last supper that Jesus had along with 12 disciples which highlights the meal along with one another as one family. Thus this concept was followed where the entire family members gathered at the table had their meal discussed lot of things, shared their problems, their joys etc which is not seen now. Now TV is God. All went near the tele with their plates and sat in front of the tel with one hand in the plate and the eyes and mouth wide opened before the tel without even knowing are the eating the meal or the fallen cockroach. This is today's life. As it is said do right things at the right time it is better to have the family meal together at the table

I grew up eating at the table with my whole family. And if one wasn't there, my mom would let the rest snack on something light, until the last person was there and we could eat together. Growing up I never thought of it, except that it was the norm. But as an adult, my sunday evening family dinner is the one thing I love and miss the most. After I had moved out, that's when we did our family time every sunday, until I moved about 1300 miles away for school. This is actually something that I want to continue when I have my own family. Taking time to enjoy each other. people totally get lost in the every day schemes that they forget the most important things in their life. Family trips or vacation are also high on the list of things I want to continue when I have a family. Great question!!!

Great question! I am a teacher and this was a hot topic in the lounge today...we honestly think it's part of the reason for some of the behavior problems in our cafeteria! Most children don't know HOW to eat with other people in a civilized manner!

Anyway, my husband and I have a 4 year-old and a 10 year-old, and we eat at the table together every night. We do, however, have one Friday a month when we order pizza or Chinese, watch a movie, make a pallet on the floor, and eat while we indulge in our favorite take-out.

It is very important to our family to eat dinner together at the dinner table. Our kitchen is the center of our family and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some nights my husband isn't home but my son and I still eat together. When he gets home I'll sit and drink some coffee and talk to my husband about his day. I don't really know it any other way because my family ate together growing up so I just did it without though. My husband's family never ate dinner together. Different strokes for different folks.

I have three boys and 3 month old twin girls, so unfortunatly, my husband and I usually don't eat at the table for dinner. We make all three of the older boys sit together and we talk to them and have conversations as we are taking care of the gilrs. If one or both are asleep ( which is rare) then one or both of us eat at the table. Last night neither of us even ate until after 10 o'clock. As soon as they are old enough to be in a high chair and eating solid foods, then we will all be back at the dinner table at one time again.

We do eat dinner together at the table on those nights my husband comes home on time. And I make the kids turn the TV off - I just can't stand the noise. Our kids cooperate with that rule, it's never been a problem.

Due to my hub's hectic work week, he does not get home in time to join the boys for dinner Mon-Fri. My boys will all sit at the table in the kitchen and eat dinner, no tv/stereo/etc. I will eat 1/2 my dinner with them. We talk about whatever they want to talk about. When hubs comes home, I will eat the other 1/2 of dinner with him, most of the time in front of the TV.

Saturday & Sunday - All five of us will sit down to dinner in the formal dining room and enjoy dinner together. My boys AND my husband look forward to those family dinners. So do I.

We eat at the table and talk about what went on during the day or other things that are happening in the world. If there is a special program that we all want to see (like the world series or a special documentary) we will have a special meal in the family room picnic style.
