I remember when I was 15 reading a book of mormon passage that mentioned that they had elephants...in central america. I remember that as my first big question mark, and as I looked deeper and deeper it just seemed sillier and sillier. The whole "magic hat" story absolutely floored me. The mention of steel weapons used in ancient central and north america....absolute hogwash.

My dysfunctional childhood for one, the church sets up a anetwork to makes ur eyou don't leave, well I think if I had fit in, in the firtst place, i would have never considered leaving, i was a black sheep in the family and a black sheep in my ward, my pior group was astonished when I acutally got popular with people from other wards. My ward members took the J of D as doctrine. My patriarticle blessing was nothing more then a psychic reading, It seemd as if the patriarc (however you spell it) asked my parents about me before he gave me the blessing and in not so many words, told me about a sin i was having a problem with, like thats a blessing, now the person in taking down the blessing, the patriarc and myself, all knew I was having a problem in a certain area in my life, what kind of blessing was that? After that I had just about had it with the church, They all seemed like a bunch of brainwashed, paranoid, scared for their life people. I had to leave.

I'm no longer a believer.
For me it was the Book of Abraham. We have the papyri for goodness sake! It's been translated and guess what? It's not about Abraham!
Good treatment of this subject here: http://www.irr.org/mit/Books/BHOH/bhoh1.html
Only skip the Christian testimony crap at the end.

I am.
There really wasnt one thing or more that made me leave the church. I woke up one morning last December and realized I just didnt believe it anymore and wasnt going to fool myself about it or live a lie.
My heart was going elsewhere and I knew I had to follow it.
About a month after I had that "revelation" I found out about the lying and deceptions of the church and it shocked the crud out of me. It just reaffirmed my conviction to not return and live a lie.
I now am happy and following where my heart and soul lead me.

I have spoken with many former Mormons on the carm website. You might try going there, it's a terrific place to witness to those in ALL the cults.
