I think many people fear that vulnerability because of the society we live in, the world as it is. Where people are competitive and often, downright hostile and aggressive, and if you make yourself vulnerable to just anyone, they will take advantage of you and cause you harm. So you have to be selective with your vulnerability, and develop discernment as far as who is safe to open yourself up to. :-)
