A good alternative to this is as follows:
Chop 1 small red onion and 1 small white onion, chop a handful of mushrooms - put in a non-stick pan and gently fry in a mix of some butter and extra virgin olive oil. When softened, add (optional) a chopped garlic clove, and (essential) some oregano and basil (fresh is best but dried will do) then when the aroma rises add 1/2 tin of tomato soup.
For four double the ingredients. Serve with grated cheese over the sauce and spaghetti.
Using fresh spaghetti from the supermarket chiller, this should be on the table in 1/2 hour at most.

I don't see why not. However, it won't be as saucy, but you will get a tomato flavor.
Making it as I go here -
In olive oil saute Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell pepper with garlic.
Season to taste and add some red pepper flakes.
Add some tomato juice, then add some cooked spaghetti..
Top with Parmesan cheese before serving.

tomato juice is still tomato, so yes. I would add ketchup for extra flavour, or tomato concentrate. Better still, add some chopped or purreed real tomatoes.
Try this: Brown some onion, chopped garlic, basil, mixed italian herbs, then add mince (you can also add grated or chopped vegies such as carrot, mushrooms, capsicum etc)and cook until meat is browned. Add juice (and any additional tomato if you have some) and cook until meat is soft. Add beef stock and ketchup, serve with pasta and cheese.

not unless you want tomato noodle soup. it'll be too runny...but if you're desperate, tomato paste will thicken it up.
