I just moved from an apartment to a house. My 2 year old male cat will not leave the upstairs. I try to bring him downstairs but he runs off and hides into really small crevices and I'm scared he might die in a wall or something. How can I make him feel comfortable in the entire house?

Put its food at the bottom of the stairs and then leave it to it.

Cats have a need to feel safe, to have no fear in their enviroment. All new enviroments will make them apprehensive. He will need time to explore on his own without anyone around. Most likely he will explore at night.

Make sure you keep water and a litter box on both floors and his food downstairs. Give him time. When you are home alone with him try sitting on the stairs and read a book or look through a magazine. Have a kitty treat with you. Don't try to entice the cat, just sit and wait. Sooner or later he will be curious enough to come to you. Don't try to force him to stay downstairs - each time you bring him down forcefully he will race back upstairs to where he feels comfortable. Be patient with him and remember he is small and wants to make sure there are no threats in this new home.

Good luck to you and your cat.

If you've only just moved in there will still be 'smells' of strange thinngs that only a sensitive cat nose can smell (like the previos owner having a dog or cat). Your best bet is to bring your bed quilt (or something else that smells of you) in to the rooms you want him to explore and to place him on it whilst you play with him. You may need to close the door initially to get his attention to temp him to play, but if you use some of his favorite toys and possibly treats he should feel right at home soon. You may have to do this for every room but just try placing more things with your scent on places he might want to sit/play/explore.

Just leave him alone he will come out in time. You have to remember that cats have very sensitive hearing so he has to get used to all of the sounds in the house, plumbing, floor settling, etc. He will not die in a hole in a wall, he may be your pet but he is still an animal and he will survive.

A special food treat at the foot of the downstairs could do it. Also just leave him alone he more that likely will come down on his own.

Give him time. He will eventually get comfortable. Don't force it because that only makes him associate fear with the area you're forcing him into. When he does come downstairs, reward him with things like tuna. But let him come down on his own.

Your cat thinks you're "conversing" to her. :) it truly is robust that she feels effective approximately your making a song and is not attacking you for it. :) My cats might whine and basically be terds each time i might get on the telephone and talk for extra advantageous than 2 minutes. They theory i became chatting with them and could not comprehend why I wasn't paying interest to them. Oh they could be undesirable! So, I when I talked for a whilst, i might sit down and enable them to be on my lap or suitable there and that they acted lots extra ideal as a results of fact of their eyes, i became chatting with them and that i became there to convenience them. i'm hoping it relatively is sensible. Your kitty is basically thinking you're chatting along with her and he or she comes once you're chatting with carry out with you. it relatively is cool! She loves you!

Just give your kitty some time. He'll warm up on his own. In the meantime, you could pick up some catnip for him as a nice little treat.
