To all of you Christians, atheists, and other religions, do you think God (or an Allbeing) has given us a special gift to change our surroundings. I understand that in the Bible, it states that when we ask for something in prayer, believing, we shall recieve. Do you think there is more to this? What if I pray for better health at this instant? Am I automatically healed?

What I believe is that God, or someone with higher power, has given us the ability to pray, to change our surroundings through prayer and THEN us. For Instance, if I wanted better health, I would first pray for health, and then do something about it. I would focus on being healthy and I wouldn't ever doubt the power of the mind and God, and I would be healed. It's almost like collaborating the power of God with the power of human mind to make an outcome, like a Chemistry experiment.

I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say here, but in brief, what are your thoughts on this?

Dharmana, surroundings meaning perspective or worldview of that particular person. When I say change our surroundings, I mean change ourselves along with it.

Mac, atheist is a word that stands for someone not believing in a god. When I ask atheists this question, it merely reflects upon a "higher" self or "universal mind". It's more scientific for you atheists.

I believe you have truth in what you wrote Dharama. Whether there is a God or not, it is evident that the power of the human mind is present.

honshu, even though I think your answer/question was sarcastic, I actually belive you have a lot of truth to that. I think it's possible to grow a hand back, or do any so called "impossible" things through the combination of God/human power.

Very educated answer Scott, thanks!

Rorya, intersting comment. I do believe you have truth to that also. Why do you think God lets something happen like that? Do you think He wants the 25 other children in Heaven with Him to escape the turmoil of our living World? Maybe it's a blessing?

So sslocks, are you going to just sit there and complain then? If you don't believe in God, then you at least believe in human mind power? or no?

elmj-something, I do believe you are correct in the fact that the kid who goes to school will make money, but that's not to say the praying kid won't make any less or more...my point is, I think he could take a different route, whether it's the combination of God and human, or it's their own ways of doing something, I think it doesn't really matter.

I totally agree with you! The thing is, most people, when they don't get results, lose faith in God, instead of trusting in him. Sometimes we don't get what we pray for; and sometimes what we pray for isn't necessarily what God has planned for us.
We need to trust God in that no matter how we may suffer here on earth, he has promised us everlasting peace upon his return; and all we have to do is believe in him and strive to follow his commandments.

you are on the right track whether you describe a god a Deity an almighty being a cosmic entity a power or whatever we are all part of this great 'thing' we have good and evil inside us we can focus on good and strengthen ourselves and with time and patience I have been convinced by my daughter even heal others and attain all that we desire even our own recovery from ailments, but no it isn't automatic and you have to visualise it being so over sometimes a long time before things begin to work out. The negative side is if we are not sending out good thoughts and behaving in a good way then we are feeding the negative and ruining it for all of us. We must unite (or if you like reunite)on the emotional plain doing no harm to others and for some what seem like miracles occur as the strength of love is boosted. but when people kill and or otherwise harm others then the power of love weakens. Whether you attribute it to god or whatever it cannot be measured or explained like the world and the moon and stars and all of life it just is! Good question and very thought provoking. well done.

I think I see where you are going with this. I took a Psychology of Stress Management class in college, and learned that prayer to some people is a release, and brings you to a closer connection to God. So when you say collaborate, I agree. We are in God's image, so we are therefore connected. We have the power to change the world, and ourselves. But when plugged into God's thoughts through prayer, there is action and results. Never in our own time frame though, because He is almighty and knows when we need the help, not want the help.

Very thoughtful question.

All humans agree, since ancient to present times that, there is a Superpower behind the formation, existence and functioning of the Cosmos. The concept of God, Almighty, Allbeing, Ishwar, Parameshwar, Allah and the like has originated from this thought. It is some sort of Energy and not an Individual, which can be pleased or not pleased by worship or no worship. Nobody has ever understood the nature of this Ultimate Superpower and it is beyond the capacity of human brain to comprehend it, because human brain has limitations by default....Well, these are my thoughts.

I m a Muslim i Believe in ALLAH (God) & i believe that he has given us special ifts too each one of us have something special & if we try we can change our surrounding & ALLAh will help us if we r doing it for good.As far as the matter of prayers concerned He is always listening to us & He has all the powers to give us what we r asking for so praying for things is important (atleast for me i m always praying for watever i need or want for myself or others) xometimes if we dont get what we have asked for then it means the thing which we have asked for was not good for us & cud b harmful in some ways ( as ALLAh knows all but we dont) so we wud have been granted with something else or may b that wish is kept to be rewarded in Heaven for us.

I believe that God has given us a special gift of Life. But praying for something is not always going to get what YOU want. the bible says that if you pray for something and truely believe it to happen that it will. The time frame that it will happen in is not part of the equation though. Sometimes God's answer is "No" or "Not right now", even though we need something fixed right now.

I have found the best way is to pray for God's will, and my own acceptance of what that will may be as it affects me.

If this is being posted in anything other then the religion group and people are offended, that is not my intention. My intention is to mention my own opinions and state them. You are welcome to disagree, but do not chastize me because I state mine.

EDIT: For those of you that do not believe in God, please feel free. But do not discriminate me because I choose to believe in what I do. By the way, even if my belief in God is incorrect it hurts no one. It allows people I come in contact with to be comforted and happier. It gives me peace and safety. In the end, when I die, there will be no one hurt by me and I will go to meet my maker. If I was wrong, I just rot in the ground and my consious being goes along with it. On the other hand...if you are right, then you have gone through life accusing people of things that you are not positive about. If you are wrong. Then...well, I guess I will pray for you too. Sort of goes like the joke where a teacher says to a child that the Whale has a throat too small to swallow a human being so thereby the Jonah and the big fish story can not be true. A little girl says that it is absolutely true and that when she gets to heaven she will prove it and ask Jonah himself. The teacher mentions, well, what if Jonah never made it to heaven. The little girl says, "Then you can ask him". Smoking or not smoking. Your choice!

Yes, it's your mind, to think, choose, evaluate, analysis, etc. In the animal kingdom, the bigger the brain the smarter the creature.

But he gave us the power to protect this planet. We dominate this world and his animals.

If you want better health, read for the answer. I did and came across "NASA Clean Air Plant Study". Do a "google" search and find the best live plants that everyone should have in their home or work place. Beside removing the harmful gases it replaces it with oxygen.

First of all, you need to be a child of God, saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. You cannot appeal to God without going through Jesus. Jesus is the mediator between God and man.

Secondly, God has a will for your life. You should pray for that. Maybe God's will is that you are not healed. Possibly through this it will bring others to Christ.

I know God can heal and He does heal, but not always. No one can live forever here on this earth.

If God doesn't heal you, He WILL bring you though it.

You're right , no one knows what you're trying to say , but you keep on saying it just the same.
If two guys of equal ability and intelligence each wanted a million dollars when they were kids . One studied hard , went to college and got a high degree .
The other quit grade school , but spent the same amount of time praying as the other did studying . Which one would you bet money on ?

i dont think i have to pray to change my surronding.

Just about anyone in the world was given the power to change their surrondings. If praying makes one believe thats what changes things then so be it but ive also heard of people who just believe something will happen and it does or it changes a little.instant health? no such thing. if it does happen your lucky but belief and will power may be the one who got it to you, or it could be that you just so happend to be eating and drinking right or if you die and lose that health it may be just because, it was your time. and will power, faith, and hope will not be proven wrong or right because everyone has differnt expiernces. but.. i guess what im trying to say is that, i believe things just happen and what doesn't happen, happens so that something else can happen.
will power and faith and belief wont always work but if you stay on the track you want maybe you can change what you want to happen but if it somehow doesnt go down that way it was meant to be i dont think, praying helps i dont think hope helps you cant just sit at home and pray you cant just sit at home and hope you have to get up and do something..I have the power just like everyone else.
and no one gave it to me... they must not have cause everyone else has it too.

I think that God gives us all special gifts to use in the building of His kingdom. Some preach, some teach, some heal, etc. I also believe that there is power in prayer. You also have to have faith and believe that your prayers will be answered. Now maybe sometimes the answer isn't the one that you want, but there is always an answer. I also believe in the power of thinking positive, I think somewhere in the Bible it says as a man thinketh so is he. Makes sense to me.
