When Bungie was acquired by Microsoft 6-7 years ago, the Halo IP (intellectual property) was also acquired by Microsoft. Even though Bungie has reverted to being an independent developer, they didn't regain ownership of the Halo franchise. Besides, Bungie has gone on record to say that aside from developing new IPs, they would continue to work on Halo.
Oh, and as a sidenote to the person who mentioned the one-time PlayStation exclusives that are now slated to appear on the 360, Sony never purchased those IP. They just paid those companies for platform exclusivity.

Bungie President Harold Ryan said it will continue to develop games exclusively for the Xbox 360 and Windows PCs "for the foreseeable future."
It's just that Bungie is now independent and may be making games for PS3 but not Halo.

Not a chance, although they did split, Microsoft retained the rights to Halo and therefore Halo3 as well.
In fact I wouldn't look for Bungie to jump to ship anytime soon either, since as part of the agreement to split was that Microsoft gets first right to refusal of their games.
Although that doesn't mean we wouldn't see potentially more cross platform games from them.

I would chalk that up to the rumor mill at this point. Nothing official has been released about HALO: ODST being ported for any other console other than XBOX 360. It would be nice if Sony and Microsoft started to get along though. I'd love to play MGS4 on my 360 someday.. Here's hoping!

Microsoft owns copyrights on Halo, not Bungie, so it's not coming to PS3. Imho, the same story will happen to it, as it happened with Bioshock - it'll come to PC.

I wouldn't be surprised. Every 360 owner would be pissed but guess what started off as a Playstation exclusives :
Resident Evil
Devil May Cry
Tomb Raider
Grand Theft Auto
And now all these games are multi-platform. Once the contract with Microsoft is up as far as the rights are concerned anything could happen. To believe otherwise would be ignorant.
