she is about 16 years old, she has plenty of water in her bowl, but she is going into the shower when i get out so that she can drink the water from the faucet, and then she jumps up to the sink and drinks from there when im using it, and this morning i even caught her drinking from the toilet. Its like she cant get enough water... she has never done any of these things, im just concerned cause she is old.

Because of the age of the cat and its a new behavior I would think Kidney problems, and as others have said possibly diabetes. Either way without being checked by a vet the cat could become very sick very fast, better to get it checked out as soon as possible.

You definitely need to see a vet. Diabetes is one possible concern. It can be treated, but you need to get on top of it. Once you've ruled that out, it may be this is a good thing. Cats need to drink LOTS of water to avoid another common problem - kidney failure. And most cats don't drink enough.

cats like running water to drink

if you had a cold tap running gently your cat would probable preferre it to a bowl of water

i found this out from one of my cats

for years i would put water down for her and find her drinking out of the toilet then the cold bath tap

i think it's because it's colder than just sat in the bowl

my cat started this at 8 years and is now 13

don't let it worry you but it's a cat thing that is rather fun

When cats crave a lot of water diabetes must be considered. Hyperthyroidism can also have the symptom.

Both are treatable and your cat MUST have a blood panel to determine these conditions. Please have your lovely old friend checked out. She can have many more happy, healthy years with you if you get treatment for her.

Excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes. You should take your cat to the vet as soon as possible. It can be treated with insulin injections if that is what it is. But the best thing is to have her checked as soon as possible.

Good luck to you.

Because of the age of your cat, I would guess feline diabetes!
Continuous thirst is one system(similar to human diabetes).
Insulin injections maybe required(the vet will give you training on how to do it)!
