Traditional English family values. Many decades of comfortable family life: tea-time. My first though was old-age=loneliness but then I saw the second knife on the table: wife not in shot?

There is evidence of a second place setting at least. There is Colman's mustard, salt in a bought container and pepper in a pot. An elderly man in red is about to turn the tv off or on - I can't see it on so it looks like he is turning it on to listen to perhaps the news from the next room - so therefore he is not deaf.

The tablecloth has been freshly laundered and ironed, so someone is making an effort.

What do I think the situation is?

Maybe the man's wife is cooking the meal, or it could be the man lives alone and is expecting a friend or a son or daughter, or maybe even his wife has died and he eats alone and he still lays a setting for her.

The last one is my option.

Judging by the mustard jar i'd say ham was on the menu, or maybe a beef sandwich

recent widower. he still sets table for two but there is no chair. The condiments are by his place setting. He has gone into kitchen to get something but is now wondering why he came into the kitchen.

I may not have much, but I do have peanut butter(looks like to me) to offer you so you won't go hungry and I'll share with you.

Child hood memories; we were always hungry. We didn't have a lot. It wasn't a good time for the four of us I'm afraid.

I`m lonely.
I live on my own.
I leave the door open in the hope someone will visit me.
I still have alot of pride.
I set the table, tablecloth and all.
I`m lonely.

It says that some old guy who likes to paint had to take a leak. It also tells me that whoever photographed this is certainly an amatuer.
