I was 'cleaning' some stuff up in add/remove folder earlier, and it so happens that I deleted something related to having sound from the comp... Sucking pretty badly with computers, I have absolutely no clue how to fix that. I've read about a few tips, but it seems nothing is related to my problem. I keep getting the msg that I need to locate my CD-ROM installation.

I'm using Microsoft Windows (XPS), and no, it's not a legit one.. otherwise I think it would have been easier to get my problem fixed.
I'm not sure where to go to know what kind of sound card I'm using (I'm not good with comps..).

Which sound card is installed in your computer?

I can't seem to be able to get the name of the card I'm using..
I see a lil box with a minus sign next to it (Multimedie Audio Controller) and it says it can't be enable cause the drivers for that device arn't installed. I', so lost in all this, and nothing works. :(

I can't seem to find the name of my sound card to try to download it again.. And I don't seem to have a sound disc at home either.

Everything is plugged in and working (according to the properties status),

I've tried going to my manager files and fix the problem. Went to the Sound, video and game control section, but everything is in order. The only place I see where it gives me an error sign is in the Other device section. It gives me a minus sign, and when I click on the Multimedia Audio Controller, it tells me "The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)". And when I try to use the Wizard to fix it, then comes the CD-ROM message telling me I need to find its location..

Are you using Microsoft Windows as your computer's operating system?

Which version of Microsoft Windows?

Which sound card is installed in your computer?

Since you have mentioned that your computer asks for the CD-ROM (which, ostensibly, has the sound card drivers you need to install), you're on the right track.

To find out which sound card you have, if you're using Microsoft Windows, press the Windows Key (near the Space bar on your keyboard), and while you're holding that key down, press the Pause/Break key (near the top right-hand corner of the keyboard).

Then, release both keys. An applet will open up and you can click on the button labeled: Device Manager.

In the Device Manager, you can expand the category having to do with Sound. And in that category, you'll find the name of your video card.

Then, you can type that information into a Google search box and find your sound card manufacturer's Web site. From that Web site you will most likely be able to download the correct driver for your sound card.

Then, you can install the driver anew.
