My mother had a servere iron deficiency about 6 months ago, and there are a few things that I remember. First spinach is full of iron. She ate a lot of fresh spinach in salad and sauteed it up as well. If I remember correctly all of those leafy greens (kale, turnip greens, collards) are all full of iron. Another thing, that she didn't really like, but used to take like a pill was smoked oysters. They came in a can next to the tuna. Also Barilla makes a fortified pasta that has a lot of iron in it. I don't remember the brand, but there is also a frozen low fat organic muffin out there that has a ton of iron in it. Of course beef, but she was concerned about cholesterol, so she stayed away from that. Also clams.

I hate taking iron supplements so I try to eat at least 2 meals a week with red meat. Raw spinach is good too but you have to eat loads to have the same amount of iron as a small bit of red meat.

Good plant sources of iron include dried fruits, whole grains (including wholemeal bread), nuts, green leafy vegetables, seeds and pulses. Other foods rich in iron but which are usually eaten in smaller amounts include soya flour, parsley, watercress, black molasses and edible seaweeds. The use of ironware when cooking foods also contributes to dietary intake.
consuming vitamin c alongside helps the absorption of iron.
although spinach is loaded with iron it is harder to digest the iron than from many other sources

Fortified cereal, red meat, green leafy vegetables. Make sure you are intaking enough vitamin C and B vitamins. Your body needs vitamin C to absorb iron and B vitamins to use iron.

Any internal organs from animals are loaded with iron. Try frying liver with onions and bacon in a cast iron skillet. Also green leafy veggies.

Meat
liver
lentils
parsley
and make sure that you eat one citric fruit as dessert after any of them. The ascorbic acid (citric acid) helps the body absorb more iron from those foods than it would normally do, and fix it better ..
