I'm actually looking into the legality of marrying a bicycle.

I wouldn't describe it as affectionate. That sounds a little creepy. I do really like my vintage Lotus road bike, but I would give it up in a minute for a new Trek Madone or Orbea Orca. My mountain bikes are nice, but I have no particular attachment to them. The only bike I would never get rid of is a 1952 Schwinn Phantom that my Dad delivered newspapers on when he was a kid. That bike has a lot of sentimental value. It's pretty beaten up. The paint is rough, the wheels are out of true, and it's missing a few parts, but I still get a lot of compliments on it every time I ride it. Someday, I will give it the restoration it really deserves.

I don't know if that's justified truly. From what you've said it's probably wrong that your sister should blame your mother, but there's some factors that may have been the mother's fault. There may have been some influence from your mother's life - how she divorced your father, etc, which possibly could have influenced her as well. I agree with Chuck Norris (the other replier), maybe cutting your sister off from you father was a bad idea too. There's ups and downs on both sides. Personally I think it was your sisters choices to get pregnant and marry and everything, so I side with your mother. Just remember, you need to take your own personal experiences and feelings too. Good luck :)

Sometimes I take my bike to a nice dinner and a show. I do have a "connection" with her as she is the only girl that hasn't lied, cheated or just wanted my money. Yes sometimes we bathe together, or take a moonlight ride on a warm summer night. She's aways in the mood for a ride and when I'm tired she's quite and respectfull of my wishes. What else could a guy ask for?

I understand your feelings. I ride a '07 Felt F85 and '05 Felt F55 road bikes. These two are my babies after my 1 year old- though sometimes I wonder which I put first. My bikes get cleaned after every ride and I wouldn't dare ride them in wet weather. I wax them once a month and I keep them hanging on my bike rack in my living room. I don't mind people (that I know) touching them. Anyone else, I'm ready to go into defense mode. Ask this on roadbikereview.com and I bet there are tons of others who feel like us.

Well, I admit to being attached to my old POS Trek 820 that I've had for 14 years. I never ride it, don't need it, and it just takes up room on my apartment balcony. Oh, it's rusty too. I put new tires on it, changed the brake pads, a new chain, scrubbed off what rust I could, and there it sits. I ride my new bike all the time, but can't stand the thought of just tossing out my old ride.

Yes, and no. I am attached knowing that I built up my own bikes but I also know that I can build up another and another and another... each will benefit from the lessons learned in the past. Bikes wear out like anything else. Don't get too attached.

Terrence is your typical road rider - "dont touch my bike or ill cry!!" after just waxing a bike (most bikes dont need any wax.lol) that will never be ridden in less than perfect weather. My bike was built for punishment, not affection. Punishment=love and thats how my bike likes it. A month ago or so we rode in a torrential downpour just for a change of pace. Bikes arent meant to be cuddled, save that shyt for your girlfriend or your pecker.
