If you're looking at pre 2007 models, go with the CR-V. You'll get more for your money and they are equally reliable. It's just that the CR-V is a little bigger and has lots more interior room. I'm a Toyota fan and I have owned two CR-Vs for that reason. However, with the Rav4 offering a V6 and now it's big enough that now it offers an optional third row seat, the Rav4 sounds like the better buy. Also, the V6 in the Rav4 is close only like 1-2 mpg less than the new CR-V's 4cylinder engine but has almost 100 more hp. They both are very reliable vehicles but the fact remains: Whether you need the additional power or not, which one sounds like a better buy when they can be had for about the same price? A 4 cylinder Rav4 could be had for a little less than both.

RAV4! I test drove both of these cars, and the biggest difference for my family (aside from how much better the Rav4 looked!) was comfort. The back seat of the CRV was like sitting on pressboard boxes. On a long trip that would be unbearable. Try sitting in the back seat, and see if it has improved. Both cars were a little noisy on the highway. I love the way my '04 RAV4 handles, and it is great for getting to work in the snow and ice, also wonderful for camping. After all this time, all I've had to do is regular maintenance and a little brake work. I do have to admit, though, that my son's learning to drive last year was hard on the clutch (we chose a manual, not an automatic), and it is starting to show the wear.

Well I am torn here, as I admire both vehicles. If you are just looking for transportation from point A to Point B, the Corolla is hard to beat. It is reliable, easy to maintain, gets very good mileage, and even handles quite well. On the other hand, if you find yourself hauling a good many things, kids, tools, that TV you just bought but don't want to pay to have delivered, well the CRV is more versatile in that regard, but does give up some fuel economy and really does not handle quite so well as the Toyota, mostly just because the Toyota has a lower center of gravity. Still another competitor I would look at would be the Subaru Impreza wagon in this price range. It is a little peppier than the Honda or the Toyota, has AWD, and because of its horizontally opposed engine design, also has a low center of gravity, so it handles well. Reliability is also quite good.

The Toyota Rav4 is much more classier! The CRV's drive like a cheap box on wheels, I didn't like the ride at all. The Rav4 felt as smooth and comfortable as a car. I don't know about off roading in either, never did it, but I did offroad in a Toyota Corolla and a Civic. The Corolla went air borne so many times! The Civic had gotten bent after the first pot hole and I never took it out again.

What?????????? I work at Toyota and the Toyota RAV4 is a very smooth ride. it comes in 3 trim levels with a wide array if options not to mention looks a LOT better than the CRV. Also the V6 Rav4 is Extrememly Fast and i have never seen any rav4's come in for anything more than maintenance. Evervody i know who owns one loves them. The CRV is a really good SUV as well but it is underpowered very Reliable and Not so good looking. Its your Choice but id Go Toyota.

If you really want to know what people think go on carsurvey.org and see what people think about RAV4's and CRV's

I recommend you drive them both but I would go with the Rav 4. It has lots of room, is reliable, and the new v6 is really powerful with impressive fuel economy. You can even tow a significant amount with one.

The new CRV is very refined and reliable as well, but it does look a little strange (I suppose that's subjective though) and it doesn't offer the same performance.

In Consumer Report's small ute' comparo, the new RAV 4 won out by a landslide.

Toyota, currently is not doing so good in the reliability department. So the only choice you have unless you like to work on them alot would be the CRV.

The Honda CRV is a much smoother ride with more features.

I speak from experience.
