I have to add I would "assume" (could be wrong) that it is younger askers/answerers that are doing it (oh how to make yourself feel old) and it often makes me wonder what are we teaching our childrens these days??

Totally agree with you. Text language is only acceptable in a text message otherwise it's ignorant and lazy. I won't read or respond to questions where people can't be bothered to write in proper English.

I evaluate you! What annoys me extra suitable (i'm no longer saying you're doing this) is people (that i've got have been given considered on suited right here) assume actual pondering the actuality which you're truthfully no longer on your previous due 20's, which you have substitute right into a tattoo to be in call for. I hate that. yet I hate the persons who do get it to be in call for. I actual think of of, on the top of the day those are going to be the persons who be apologetic approximately it the main significant. yet, i've got have been given come to love this area in a vogue (for the extra suitable useful questions) I used to loiter around contained interior the society and way of existence area (correct particularly the r&s and LGBT sections) yet I truthfully have been given so uninterested with preachers, bigots and persons thinking their faith is the the suitable option one. do no longer difficulty, there are even however some people around that get inked to mark an significant time etc. i'm 18 and have been given my first tatt (I even waited till at last the criminal age!) to symbolise getting over the suitable yet even however gaining knowledge of from it.

What is the point of using text speak when not everyone understands it? Surely it is better to use English, or whatever language is being commonly used, so that your opinion is understood. It's not like we are expecting proper spelling, grammar and punctuation (although this helps) all we want is to be able to decipher what is being said.

Yes it does. "text speak" arose from the limitation of 160 characters in a text message. How many phone still have that limitation now? Perhaps the people who use it on YA have become so attached to their phones and texting that they can't write in English anymore - perhaps they can't even speak it either!

Yes, it does annoy me. The impact that text speak is having on youngsters' ability to correctly use the English language is serious.

The standard displayed on this site is, in the main, very poor.

Yes, it does annoy me.
As I can't use text speak or understand it, I don't bother to read the questions or answer them. I thought text usage was because it was cheaper to use on mobile phones because of the number of letters used.
As they don't count the letters on here, it must be pure laziness.

Yes. Contractions and abbreviations are all very well if you are in a hurry, using a non-standard keyboard or being charged per word, but it is mere slobishness to text on the Internet!

There are many users on Yahoo answers that are not native English speakers and I feel using this abbreviated way of typing is ignorant and dis-respectable to those that wish to improve their knowledge of English.

yes, its quicker to type normal than to use text speak, half the time I don't understand what the person is trying to say either!

It is really irritating - they might do it that way to make it quicker and easier for themselves but it takes twice as long to read it!
