lol...I saw this on TV I totally cracked up...I've been attending NASCAR events for over 30 yrs, I've never caught anything..I doubt any terrorist would consider bombing a Nascar event, anyway all medical personnel have to be vaccinated for a number of diseases anyway....Go pick on somebody else Washington...

It was a very poorly worded comment. I guess these trips also include trips to medical facilities.
"NASCAR fans might seem rabid, but are they actually contagious?" is the irresistible lede on this story, in which it's revealed that for the House Homeland Security Committee were advised to get hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza shots before attending two stock car races this month.
Those are the kinds of shots people might get before going to central Africa, not North Carolina. Recognizing low-hanging fruit when he sees it, Rep. Robin Hayes, R-N.C., quickly responded.
"I have been to numerous NASCAR races, and the folks who attend these events certainly do not pose any health hazard to congressional staffers or anyone else," Hayes wrote in a letter to the Homeland Security panel.
There may be less to this story than it appears at first blush. Homeland Security chair Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said immunization instructions are commonly given when aides are sent to examine health care facilities -- which were also part of the NASCAR trips. Those trips, by the way, were designed to let panel aides research public health preparedness at mass gatherings.
Thompson also noted that the immunizations were optional, not mandatory.

They need to have them before responding to any emergency. It is to protect care giver and receiver. It is a classic case of the media trying to Take a few words and represent it as the whole truth. I wish they would put more stories on the news about my fellow soldiers making sacrifices in Iraq but unfortunately it is more chic to lead in with a story about a drunk rich girl or some ones miss on wording something so PC as to not offend any one.
Sorry for the rant....YES I HEARD THAT.

I saw that on Fox News this morning....
what a crock of poop !!!!
Like we are all dirty sickies and will spread all out redneck germs all over those hoyty toyty snobs from Washington... what a crock..
They need to see all the germs they catch from their public bathrooms in the white house and around the senate.
At nascar you are in the open air , outside in the sunshine soaking up all those UV rays and drinking beer, the best way to kill germs you can think of .
The terrorist can find better place to bomb and spray than a nascar event.

Yes I read it and it is a recommendation, not mandatory. But
in all fairness, it's something that everybody should do,
regardless of where they are at or where they go. To pick
on NASCAR races is just ridiculous, at best.

It was not mandatory, just recommended because of the amount of people they would come in contact with.
However, I wonder if they would make the same recommendation at say the world series, or Superbowl.
No, wait, they don't have as many people in attendance.
NASCAR RULES!!!
