I filled out a free ap online to see if we qualified for any grants. I filled in that i have an autistic son and was looking for housing grant. The site said the ap would be evaluated and if we qualified for any someone would contact us in 2-4 days. Some guy e=mailed me, which i never got around to responding to it. A week later he called me. He said that we should be able to qualify for at least $5000, maybe more considering our financial sit. The fee of $345 is a one time fee for the legal work and he would have my bank online verifying the info. His name was Joshua and he gave link www.nationlprocesscenter.org. I checked this link out and it said that whoever gave this link may be a scam. How do you know?

YES it is a scam -- any company that promises you grant and asks for money is a sure sign that it is a scam. Grant money is free -- if you can get it from the government

There are too many grant scams out there from companies promising to give you grants or write grants for you. Read the warning from the FTC

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2004/03/grantresources.htm
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt134.htm

Here is also one of the warnings issued by the Better Business Bureau http://www.concord.bbb.org/tips_timesharescams.html

The Housing and Urban Development in their Grants Available page makes it clear that they do not provide grants to individuals -- hence no grants for a person to buy a home http://www.hud.gov/grants/index.cfm

---------------------------------------
"While HUD does not offer direct grants or loans to individuals, we do work through local governments and non-profit organizations to make financial assistance and counseling available."
---------------------------------------

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two FREE sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Be careful! I would check the company through the Better Business Bureau. See if it is listed. I would also check the Consumer Protection and the Attorney Generals office of your state There is a list of agencies you can go through in your area; ask when calling any of the above mentioned. It will be time consuming, and you may be handed from one office to another, but it will be well worth checking and/or reporting this site. When it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Do not send any money!!!!

Sorry to hear about it, by this I mean, you are being scamed. If you want to be sure, you can go to ANY bank, you will know that they will never ask for you BANK info over the phone.
I hope you didnt share you SSN or any personal info just yet. If you did, you can go to any of the three major credit companies and tell them that you think you might have been scamed they will put your SSN on "alert" meaning that any time someone wants to open and accout, loan, buy a car, boat whatever, they can call you to confirm.
Rember if it sounds to good to be true. It probably is!

Hi Sweetie,
Check with the Better Business Beaurea if you are having any doubts. They are a free service that will give you the "lowdown" on any company, agency etc. Find them in your phone book or online. Good luck.--MissDelanne

Uh-huh, it turned right into a rip-off. You made the cashiers inspect to the US authorities? If not, did not that make you suspicious? And in case you've been getting a furnish, why could YOU be sending THEM funds? i am hoping the cost wasn't very extreme. The agent took care of you, all top. Kiss your funds so long.
