Why, when we discovered fire (and started making tools and machinery) did we withhold this discovery from our closest relatives and use this info it to start farming them?
Many religions still do not eat pork, to speculate as to the reason:
Human meat tastes the same.

Next time you take a toe or fingernail clipping, hold it with a pair of tweezers and then set fire to it, the smell is identical to pork scratchings.
Don't eat it, just take my word.

When we discovered fire, we tried to burn down the enemy. We didn't exactly keep it to ourselves.
I've never tasted human meat but i bet it tastes pretty gross considering all the artificial food we put into our bodies. Pigs are the devils animal. That's why i don't eat them.
Mammoths went extinct because of the ice age.

The religions that don't eat pork began in places with harsh climates and as such keeping pigs became too costly. Pigs give nothing back like cows and chickens -milk and eggs. Also a pigs diet is close to a humans in that a pig won't sit in a field and graze on the grass. So the food required to feed pigs was food needed for humans.
So practical law over many years gained the legitimacy of usage and subsequently became cannon laws.
