I'm a highschool student and I'm really interested in scriptwriting (plays in particular). I've written a few scripts before but am interested in improving my writing skills. Does anyone have suggestions on how a good play should be written?

The most helpful thing is going to be to get in a playwriting seminar somewhere. You'll discover that there are beginning playwrights of all ages and probably some experienced playwrights in attendance too. Hopefully, it will be led by a published playwright with some experience on stage (part of what made Shakespeare so good was that he was also an actor and knew his way around a stage; he also knew good material when he was doing it and he knew crappy material as he was laying an egg on stage). The biggest strike against you as a young (teenager?) playwright is your lack of exposure to different kinds of plays and theatrical conventions. Read as many and varied plays as you can and attend as many plays as you can. Also I've noticed teen playwrights are very slow to take criticism. Listen and try different things. Finally, have a good group of actors (read, "professional" not high school) read your play out loud.

The best book on how to write a play is Playwriting by Beranrd Grebanier. Study it. The playwriting workshop is a good idea as well. I am an award-winning playwright and I would be glad to look at one of your scripts and offer my evaluation. Read my profile and send it as an attachement to your email to my aol address

With talent! Read Arthur Miller, Ibsen, Chekhov, Tennessee Williams and ALL the Greeks to see how it's done. Remember the "gun in the drawer" technique - something mentioned at the start which is forgotten about and then reintroduced at the end in dramatic fashion.

No, the Jonas Brothers did no longer write the song "Play My track." the administrators of Camp Rock wrote it, yet after it became written, they have been given to restoration it up and make it their very own. -demi
