There are a lot of factors in this question. My Gramps only had a 5th grade education and he did very well for himself in life..of course he had Gramma who had finished HS to help him with a lot of stuff. He never stopped reading and learning, just due to circumstances he could not complete a formal education, but this was also during the 1920's. I believe he was one of the most intelligent people I have ever had the honor of knowing.

In todays world it is very different. Technology changes from moment to moment. I believe a decent education which is 12+ years is fundamental in having a decent earning wage. Yet, I have friend's who dropped out of school, got a GED, and are driving truck and making more money than some people I know working in the mental health field who have 4+ years of college.

Does this person with an 8th grade education have a CDL and driving truck? Then he has what he needs....Now, I do not want a surgeon with an 8th grade only education cutting on me or my loved ones! I think it is a matter of perspective and who you are and what you do.

What works for one person may not work for another. I do know that I started high school at 13 and did not know even a portion of what I needed to know to survive life.

Peace.

Fom experience.. NO
There seems to be a great deal of buck passing amongst the teaching staff when , as a parent, reports are as follows.
Skills are adequate - translates to - yr 9 will correct
Socially interactive - I hope I never see this kid again
My worry is the teaching of kids a smattering of a thousand things and missing the chance of opening 0ne mind to questioning that thousand things

No, there is so much in life that a person NEVER learns everything. WE (everybody) learns something new every day or at the very least quite often.

Of course not -- what a silly notion. We keep learning and learning as we move through life.
