Yes, it is. Fear comes with ignorance. If you think about it, feelings of trepidation come with not knowing what's up ahead.

Think about people whom you admire for their unflappable calm. These people know what they can expect for every choice and every action that they make. They may not be always right in their expectations, but what they know to be true helps them arm/prepare themselves against possible threat or danger - and prepared people feel less fear than unprepared ones.

On a simpler note, think about your first day in college or in prep school. Weren't you very afraid that day? That fear sprung from the fact that you did not know what will happen to you, how your schoolmates and teachers will treat you. As the days passed and you got to KNOW schoolmates, teachers and the daily school routine, you became more comfortable and your fear decreased - and decreased some more - until you were no longer afraid.

Knowledge truly decreases fear. Would you fear death if you know - truly know - what lies after it? Perhaps. Definitely, however, your fear of death would be less that of a man who is completely ignorant of what comes after death.

Hi Third P.

Yes, absolutely. Knowledge will decrease the fear of people.

One cliché says that "ignorance is bliss," but it is not. Ignorance leads to fear, to hatred of things we do not understand. Ignorance holds people in captivity. Knowledge is the key that can set them free.

When we have knowledge of something, we gain understanding. When we have this knowledge/understanding, there is no more reason for fear. We now know what to expect.

For instance, when you have to start a new job — on the first day, you are afraid, because you have no knowledge about the job, about the people you will meet, etc. This lack of knowledge creates fear. Once you get to know the job & the people, you are no longer afraid. You now have knowledge.

The same thing applies to all areas of life. Anything that leads to ignorance leads to fear & hatred. This is a main cause of racial & religious bigotry. Once most people gain knowledge, then there is no need for fear & hatred. There can be understanding & love.

This is also true in religions. When people are ignorant of religions, they remain fearful & become hostile. If they were to gain knowledge, they would no longer have any fear, and would be able to be more tolerant. That doesn't mean they have to necessarily believe in a particular religion; but they can stop attacking that religion.

For example, take Christianity. There are many people who attack it because they lack knowledge. Because of this lack of knowledge, they create ideas in their minds of what they imagine it to be like. So, thus, out of fear, they attack. If they truly had knowledge, they would no longer hold false beliefs about it & would no longer need to attack it. This does not mean that they have to convert to Christianity; it just means they would not hurl hateful comments to those who are Christians.

This applies to any other religion as well.

Hoprfully, some day, people will stop being afraid of what they do not know, or at least learn about the things they are afraid of.

Peace.

Only the knowledge the answer of true love can decrease the fear of man.
The true love is a union between two innermost souls that go though a transcendental moment (like an orgasm). This experimental moment is supernatural beyond all 'emotions', and you feel a special happiness and emotional or spiritual fulfillment.
So real love doesn't take place in the heart or in the mind. True love is an objective experience, not a subjective one as emotions.

It has been for me. Fear is of the unknown. The more you understand something and become familiar with it, the less scared you are of it. A perfect example of this is being in complete darkness, not knowing your surroundings, and feeling fearful of what you might face--and then the light comes on, and you suddenly have knowledge of what is around you, and the fear instantly goes away.

I think by decreasing death rate and increasing birth rate , does not overtake God's decisions, but instead it is in line with God's will on human race, be fruitful and multiplied. Be a good stewards of all the creations, and subdue the earth. Manage well whatever God has given us. Therefore, all sciences and technologies to help human more effective and efficient are for the will of God. Shalom.

Yes. Fear is often fear of the unknown. Knowledge discovers the known in the unknown. Fear of the known, such as the capabilities of the enemy, keeps us on our toes, looking for more knowledge.
