At least two people above have proved your point, claiming Alaska and HAwaii are the 51st and 52nd states. That's ridiculous. There are 48 continental states + Alaska and Hawaii=50. The reason? They're Americans. They can look as stupid as they want and still not be the stupidest person in the crowd. Most of the immigrants know there are only 50. It's on the citizenship test. Somebody also said Puerto Rico is likely to come into the Union beacause of some referendum. Puerto Ricans don't want to join. Nobody (or a very small number) in Puerto Rico supports statehood. They'd probably prefer independence over statehood, but I can't swear to that.

Do they?
If so, why do they talk of Britain being the "51st state" rather than the 53rd?

I suppose they might be counting DC (a federal district, not a state) and maybe Puerto Rico (a wholy dependent territory which many people believe deserves statehood), because everyone born there is automatically a US citizen.

Sorry. I by threat clicked on the undesirable question element. I spaced out. besides, 50, yet some human beings think of Puerto Rico might connect us at some point, or that California could be separated from united statesa. by utilising an earthquake. The variety of states is represented by utilising the stars on the flag, and the 13 unique colonies is represented by utilising stripes. the colors on the flag have particular meanings, white signifying purity and innocence, purple signifying hardiness and valour, blue signifying viligence, perseverence ,and justice.

They confuse the number of states with a deck of cards.
No, seriously, Americans in general have no clue where states, and even major cities, are in the US. Forget them knowing where foreign countries are, let alone the cities in them, the political leaders, or whether or not they are our allies. Google "dumb Americans" with the video option; it's sickening.
I truly believe it is a plot to dumb-down the electorate and pacify the citizenry. A dumb electorate is an easily fooled and misled electorate.
I'm ready to move to a country where people are better educated; it's self-preservation!

What kind of moron thinks there are 52 states?

2007-10-11 23:25:39 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 3 0

there are of course only 50 US states (for now!!) many people believe there were 50 before the inclusion on Hawaii and Alaska. There is a good chance that in 2010 there will be 51 states, there is a referendum in progress to decide on the inclusion of Puerto Rico (quite likely), of course many people see England as the 51st state already so that could make it 52.

Because our public school system is failing to educate our children properly and parents are not involved enough with their kids' education. Parents think the public school system is responsible for educating their kids. Public school system is interested in making money for teachers and not so interested in educating kids. It's a vicious cycle. As bad as the educational decay is, it is no comparison to the spiritual decay in this country. that's what happens when you let a village raise your child.
