I see many women jumping into conclusion when someone says their milk dried up or the baby failed to latch.Almost all mothers love to feed their babies with their own milk. But i have seen ladies who couldnt feed their babies due to certain ailments or some emotional shock.(Oh you accept it or not its up to you)Some people have inverted nipples & the baby finds it hard to latch on.The nipple shape matters a lot while feeding.(educated ppl understand this.the rest may not accept to it & again its up to you) For drying up of milk, the doctor can give some medicines to help the patient to come out of the trauma. But for the one who has enough milk but could not feed due to the nipple shape or since the baby failed to latch, the option is to pump milk & store it & feed it through a bottle. Now i need to know how to store that pumped milk!Whether room temperature or should it be kept in the deep freezer or just in the normal compartment of the fridge & for how many hrs can that milk be stored!

I breast fed all 4 of my babies. The oldest and youngest both had some feeding issues in the beginning with proper latch, but by 6 weeks old were doing fine. With my first, I had excellent guidance from the lactation consultant at the hospital who actually came to my home twice to help me. I personally did not ever pump, but my oldest daughter is. I take care of my grandson who is almost 6 months old. My daughter pumps so I can feed him with a bottle and then she nurses evenings and weekends. She uses one of the Medela brand pumps, but I am not sure which model. It is electric and is a double pump. She pumps, lets it cool to room temperature and then either puts it in the freezer or the refrigerator. We did some research to be sure we were handling the breast milk optimally. The recommendations do vary, but what we use is this: fresh pumped breast milk can stay at room temperature for a couple hours. Milk that is going to be used within the week goes into the refrigerator. Extra milk is stored in their chest freezer. If I need to use frozen milk, I thaw it in a bowl of warm water until it is the right temperature for feeding. I warm up milk stored in the frig the same way. The storage bags my daughter uses are great for placing in a bowl and running the warm water over them. I check the temperature after I place the milk into the bottle. So far we must be doing everything OK because he has been perfectly healthy with no stomach issues at all. Here is a Medela website we found helpful http://www.medela.com/NewFiles/faq/coll_store.html.

Well I am a mom of 4 and most recent is a 2 month old and well I have to pump and OK this is what i have found out after asking all the RIGHT people,.... WIC and doctor. they say to go by what is the 5 rule.... just expressed can stay at room temp for up to 5 hours as long as the baby has not eaten then stopped and you are trying to leave the rest out for latter that they say is only good for about 30 minutes. in the fridge up to 5 days as long as it is not stored in the door due to temp dropping every time you open the door it is best to place it in the back or a drawer. and in a stand up freezer up to 5 months now in a deep freezer they say it can last 10-12 months. problem with freezing it is once you unfreeze it it really should be used that same day. Now the one thing I will say is I have read on a lot of Googled answers that you can leave fresh milk out for up to 10 hours as long as it is 72 degrees or less in the room. Think about it your body is what about 98.8 and you do not make the milk as you pump you are pumping milk that your body is storing and so once you express it it is like you just put it in the cooler with ice packs. I hope this helps.

My baby was premature so I had to express to keep the milk going till the time they removed his feeding tube, and it was also fed to him thru the tube. Breast milk can stay at room temperature for 4 hours, in the fridge for 24 hours, and freezer for 3 months. Dont heat the frozen milk to thaw, let it thaw naturally in the fridge .And the rule of 4 hours applies to freshly expressed or frozen milk.
i used a pump given by the hospital which are the best. Among commercial one I bought the boots hand pump which was no good. Avents hand pump is better, but these are for one off expessing.

in case you intend to pump extra then nurse you would be exhausted. contained in the quantity of time it takes to pump you ought to've fed infant already. additionally pumping would not provide almost as plenty milk as infant latching on. Pumping sometimes after infant has already fed is wonderful and could furnish you with sufficient milk. Nursing out in public isn't a huge deal, only have a great sufficient blanket to cover you and infant and no person may be the wiser. in case you nevertheless prefer to save milk with you get an insulated field, cooler or comfortable sided cooler and positioned an ice %. in with it, besides the indisputable fact which you will additionally choose a thank you to heat the bottle up. it extremely is a soreness contained in the butt, i attempted it and found I only have been given over nursing in public because of the fact it replaced into much less complicated.

Medela is the best pump. I have the Medela swing and it works wonders. Really, the medela brand, in my opinion, is the best.
