i keep getting pins and needles in my wrist and hands and a "dead arm" every now and again....
i also get it in my legs too i thought the leg ones were to do with my SPD but tht cant really be the case for my hands can it?
just wondered if anything to worry about,i have a very hands on job and dont wanna finish too early and an active toddler...any ideas on the pins and needles grately recieved

It sounds to me as if you have carpel tunnel syndrome, its very common during pregnancy and it is caused by everything swelling up (which you probably already know is another common pregnancy problem) and this puts pressure on the vein going into your hand which causes the blood flow to be reduced and then you get pins and needles. Have a word with your midwife about it at your next appointment and she may be able to give you a support to wear.

I think that the extra pressure on your spine is causing the numbness in your legs just like you thought. What is less known is that this change in your lower spine shape transfers the load to other parts of the spine in ways that you are not used to.( plus the increased frontal weight) In this case to your kneck. Between the fourth and eighth vertabrea the nerves going down your arm are getting pinched. You can releive this pressure by taking a mediem size towel rolling it up tight and laying flat on your back (if you can; maybe knees up, or on chair or couche helps) place the towel just above seventh ( the one on lower neck that sticks out) and position the towel so it helps recurve your kneck. To roll up the towel properly lay it flat on hardish surface, fold one side in to just about the middle lengthwise and then the other side so the seams are touching, not overlapping. When you roll this up it will wrinkle just a little but I find that if I unroll it and reroll it keeping the last two wraps wrinkle free it stays comfortable. The seams in the middle give a grove for your spin to rest in thus relaxing the muscles more. Too small a towel does not give enough support and too big a towel does not fit in the spot comfortable or correctly.. same with to loose of a roll. When you get the correct size towel working, tape it just in from both ends and keep it by your bed to use whenever you get a chance to lay down for a few minutes ( my choiropracter said 10 to 15 minutes to start, but I have fallen asleep that way with no ill effects) Good luck I hope it helps , sure helps me.

Yes, I agree, it could be caused by your work, not your pregnancy. If it persists and you find it hard to pick up objects, then you have RSI and you'd better stop working. I've had it and it takes a long time to recover from.

If you're standing for long periods, you may have poor circulation in your legs, causing the pins and needles there. You need to consider changing the setup where you work: have it checked out by an ergonomist.

It might be, but there are also a couple of serious conditions that have pins and needles as a symptom. Go and see your GP/midwife, and they will check your blood pressure and take blood and urine tests to rule out whether it is anything serious. If it is something more serious, you're 37 weeks now, so your baby will be safe...but still, best not to leave it, because you could get sick.

I had pins and needles all down one side of my bosy through the last 15 weeks of my pregnancy. I had scans and all sorts. Thought I had tumour BUT THEY WERE WRONG. My chiropracter says it was because my baby was long and laying back to back therefore trapping nerves in my spine. Soon as I gave birth it went. Talk to your midwife but don't let them scare you cause it sounds just like me and I am fine now!

My hands used to fall asleep while I was driving -- especially when I was pregnant. Get a yoga video for pregnancy (if your doctor says it's OK), and give that a try. It really helped me.

Try gentle stretching before you do something that makes your hands fall asleep, and take a break every so often, and stretch, walk around, have some water.

sometimes normal in late pregnancy, keep moving that will give you relief. Tell your doctor.
