I think when people are close friends, like the ones we see and phone everyday, and go places with, they are more like family, and, well they tend to tell us what we want to hear instead of what we should know or learn, sometimes are more empathetic rather than providing us ideas, alternatives, assistance, and looking out for our welfare, etc. and some even prefer that we stay in the rut they are in, or prefer that we not be competitive with them, or that we progress. My mother used to tell me that when I found myself a bf never to tell my friends because they would either talk me out of him or try to take me from him. I found that to be very good advice. Once I was engaged to a guy whose friends didn't know me yet they talked him out of having a family with me. My mother was right, however, I had no control over his friends. I suspect he preferred to stay in a rut.

Most of my friends share a love of people and nature with me. We don't actually think alike - we just like alot of the same things. My friends tend to be eclectic. I like thoughts to be varied.

Yes, I think that's because they all work in the same field (art).

I'm not a person who seeks out friends, it takes me a long time to feel comfortable enough to let someone get close, so by that stage I know them fairly well and have weeded out anyone whose basic values are different to mine.

Most of my friends think like me to some extent otherwise they wouldn't be my friends. There will always be an element of people out there that your never going to get on with, it's all part of life.

Actually, my closest friends are the ones who have completely opposite thoughts than me. I just get along better with people who have something intresting and original to say.

Absolutely, they are my better friends.
I have a small circle of close friends.
We do share common interests and think similarly about major issues. I guess that is why we are close.
