I hear this all the time “the black community was shocked at another black-on-black killing”, or “A spokesman for the Asian community said…..”.

To me, one camp is saying “just accept us as black / white / Hispanic / Asian – one big melting pot” (fine), but then we have another camp saying “The black community needs to have more rights-to .(whatever it is)…”

Can I get some idea as to what is going on here.
a)Do we really want to ignore the skin colour thing?
b)Are these constant mentioning of “communities” re-enforcing the idea of racial segregation or are they making genuine advances to ignore our skin colour
c)Do we just hang onto the idea that someone’s race DOES make a difference only to perpetuate artificial differences?
d)WHO is driving the definition of these “communities” – the media or the people involved, or both?
e)Is there a WHITE community that I should be made aware of (yes yes, I’ve heard about the BNP, neo-nazis, KKKs – spare me the joke)
Educate me here.

I mean, we don’t hear of the “blonde community” do we? I mean can you imagine the news: “And the blond community was shocked at another blonde youth gunned down in this area. Police have a number of brunettes that they say are helping them with their enquiries and they are also holding a redhead suspect for questioning” – Ridiculous right?

The answer is, and always has been the same, we cannot! I believe the only time it is proper and right to identify any group of people is when it comes to serving the best interests of all by pointing out that XYZ community is still in need of something that every other human being has but XYZ does not.

I think we should ignore the skin color thing across the board and realize that it is the cultural differences in people that need to be understood and accepted.

Yes, I believe that having race mentioned in perpetuity helps to cement the idea that people are somehow inferior to others. I see no advances being made on this issue.

Yes, that is possible and quite plausible.

I believe both the media and the different communities drive the issues of race, color and creed.

While we know that within the white community these divisive organizations still exist, offhand I cannot think of another that does outside of our own government. It certainly doesn't help the situation by ignoring and not enforcing our laws.

I understand what you are saying. I hate when the news brings up a group of individuals as a community based upon their race. It is ignorant and it just spawns in the mind of its veiwers more racist thoughts. When they talk about the "communities" it is usually in a deragitory manner. I dont believe that their is a real "white" communities because to many white neighborhoods are peaceful and usually major news in those neighborhoods are kept secret

I do feel racially segregated from the rest of my town because of the use of the term community. I happen to live in a well mixed community yet I am conjoined with the "black" one.

I dont think your racist i understand what you are trying to say

I am a member of one of the above "communities". However I think I that the issue is not really one of the presence of "communities" per se, but rather of acceptance of others, and of people, ideas and thinking different than your own.

There is a rich history and heritage in all of the different races. We are different and that is a good thing. There are so many good and interesting things that each "community" can learn from and teach each other.

And I believe that there is nothing wrong with being a member of a specific "community" unless that precludes you accepting or interacting with other "communities". Or makes you feel better or worse than members of other "Communities".

We don't want to ignore the value of diversity. That can be a source of great strength if we don't squander it. We simply need to work harder at making everyone equal. Giving everyone the same level of respect and consideration that we would want for ourselves.

But because of the very thing we want to preserve, which is our differences, this is harder said than done. We all need to practice a little more tolerance and patience in order to get where we want to be...

Yes, I'm tired of it too, but...nothing is going to change and so I think we all should just split into our own separate communities. It seems no one wants to stand up against any type of injustice or discriminationm, we just simply ignore it or pretend it doesn't exist. America is filled with a bunch of selfish cowards. We should all just take the American* money, not the personal hard earned cash, and just split it amongst the different communities...each group establish their own form of government and be finished with this crap. That way no one can complain about minorties vs. the majority.

This crap is getting old...

The mention of the White Community makes most people scream racism, whether it's meant in racist terms or not. We can't have a group of our own without being discriminated against or called ugly names or having ugly and untrue assumptions made about us.

I'm an Asian, but not a pure one. I guess all of us have mixed bloods. I am truly an Asian by birth, but my skin is fairer than the average Asian.

a) I think that in my country, a person's skin colour is not really that of a big deal. We just ignore it. But sometimes, there are name-callings and the like. But we're good-natured people here. And so, they don't really take it seriously. There are jokes for blacks, Asians and whites alike. But we don't really care much about your skin.

I could only answer you that much.....

This is an excellent question. The idea of 'communities' is indeed socially divisive and it comes from the stable of the political correctness fanatics. They want to number and categorize everyone. They can't help it, it's the way their deranged pseudo-intellectual minds work.

Human beings are human beings are human beings and the sooner the fanatics realize this the better.

I believe the answer to point (d) is that the white middle class left are the ones stirring it. They create these concepts of "communities" (oh, don't forget the "gay community") as if there's some spurious solidarity amongst them. I believe it's done not out of good intentions, but because they actively want to bring about the downfall of society.
