Conservative is what we are and Neo Conservative is what the lefties who answer questions on Y!A call us when they want to attempt to insult us.

In truth, a "neo" conservative is an old hippie from the '60s who has grown up and "seen the light," so to speak, realizing that right-leaning rhetoric makes more sense and turning conservative in his/her old age.

I've been a conservative since birth, with no help from Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, thank you very much, so I don't consider myself a neo-conservative. Just plain old conservative will do just fine.

Geopolitical - Neos want a new world order mostly for the benefit of multinational capitalism, but also for the benefit of the state of Israel. They believe the military is the primary instrument of foreign policy. Conservatives believe the US should mind its own beeswax, and that the military should be used to defend our country, not to start foreign wars. They believe in international law and the principles of international relations that have evolved since the 15th century.

Separation of church and state - Neos believe the treasury's funds can and should be given to religious based charities, that the US was founded as a Judeo-Christian nation.
Conservatives know from history that the US was meant to have a secular government and that the entangling of religion and state causes conflicts and wars.

Fiscal responsibility - Neos spend, spend, spend. Their administration has produced record deficits as it wages wars on the public credit card. But it seems that none of the money goes for the benefit of the general public. Conservatives believe that a balanced budget defines fiscal responsibility. They believe that spending should be matched to revenues.

Limited government and Civil Liberties. Neo conservatives pay lip service to these ideals while their government intrudes in personal decisions, eavesdrops without warrants, eliminates constitutional rights and undermines the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Conservatives - Believe in individual self determination and that the government should stay out of our private lives Liberals are stronger on civil liberties and the bill of rights, but real conservatives also guard most of these rights because they respect and understand the Constitution.

Neo Con originated as a phrase to bash Jews who thought for themselves and refused to go lockstep with the left wing thought police. It was expanded to include every group that the left wing claims for their own thought property. Anyone who dares step off of the liberal plantation gets this tag.

The phase is now used for every conservative. I myself like to be counted with the likes of Clarence Thomas and Rush Limbaugh.

If I am a neocon so be it.

Conservatives have held a basic political philosophy for a long time. Less government, less spending, national defense.

Neo-conservative is a term originally used to describe Jews who were Democrats. Then they got some experience, education, money. They then became conservative.

Neo only means newly.

To Common Sense: That's an easy one. Classical liberalism is a political viewpoint, while Neo-Liberalism is an economic philosophy followed by the most recent Republican Presidents, starting with Reagan.

What is the difference between classical liberalism and neo-liberalism?

The neo-liberals supress free speech. They want to do away with America's free market capitalist system. They think they are entitled to government handouts. They want to do away with all religion. They agree with killing babies. They are opposed to tough sentences for violent criminals. They are for open borders. They are opposed to the enforcement of our laws. They deny that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principals by Christians.
