You say something about them taking pay cuts? Taking a "pay cut" from 12 million dollars to 10 million, is just not a big deal to me. Screw them all. They are severely overpaid and all they do is play sports. They don't find cures for cancer, and they are not creating new software. So screw them!
Cheers

Professional athletes earn money for their teams' owners. They sell tickets, cable subscriptions, merchandise, and video games. They're commissioned salespeople as well as entertainers. So yes, they do deserve the money they make. No one goes to a game to see the owner.

As long as there is one starving child in the world, Athletes salaries are out of line, and yes we do feed the monster, and that is why many people who would love to take their family to a baseball, football, or hockey game just can not afford to.
Tickets are bought up by corporations, under sponsorship programs, and given to their friends.

Athletes and actors are WAY overpaid. The wealth distribution in this country is herrendous. There really isn't a middle-class anymore. It has turned into Have-lots and have-nothings.
Nobody in the entertainment industry should get paid more than 500k/year. That's just truth.

i feel that atheletes especially in america are getting paid overzealous amounts but i dont believe they are paid to much especially when in one down, pitch or shoot for the hoop their career can go down the toilet with 1 or 2 injuries. The physical gruel they put themselves through to achieve this level of athletecism is astounding especially for those in lesser skill positions and most of the money is earnt by the higher skill positions eg. quaterback, running back, defensive end or wide recievers like peyton manning, randy moss, lt or julius peppers. These guys work 3-5 days a week to keep their jobs and the money as well as attempt to keep out of the lime light or intentionly keep it and act as role model for your little johnny or jack and those dont suffer the consequences eg. Pacman Jones lost all game cheques for this yr due to suspension or more recently Mike Vick who has to return a 20 million signing bonus. This example of football has the least games in a season of any major american sport but baseball players play in excess of 100 games a season and basket ball players play roughly 80 games and neither or these include post season play. These men and women also will never be able to work another job in most cases eg. larry johnson's body will not stand up to most jobs involving physical labour, a line mans knee's will be permanently damaged this is same with a basketballer's knees or ankle or a pitcher or quaterbacks shoulder. This a product of hype and inflation of the commen wage i would hardly consider the fans the victim, the fans are the problem, they go to the stadium to see the big plays on sunday or saturday or which time their relative sport plays and these athletes put in every week of their contract offered to them by the team which are run like businesses so why shouldnt they be paid like the employees of a highly profitable company.

I think this is the same as 'celebrities', ie; actors. While I do think the amount they make is excessive, they are the ones bringing it in, so I would rather them get it than the corporations involved. Yes, others put money up, like producers for example, but it's the actors that get people to watch.
Same for professional sports. I think 10 million to play a game is crazy, but they are the attraction. If we are willing to pay the price, it should go to them.

NO!!!!!!! Dont get me wrong I love football but there is ABSOLUTLEY no reason for them to make THAT much $$$$$$. Granted they give alot to society but anything that they give is also a tax write off. Even a player that is just drafted and not even playing is not hurting for cash. How often do you hear about a college player that just got drafted to the pros workin at Mcdonalds to "make ends meet"?

Well like Jordan once said, Why shouldn't I take the money? If I don't the owners are just going to keep it.
