right now, ichiro suzuki (sea) is pretty clearly the best (relative to peers) by almost any metric--raw stats (except power), avgs, win shares, value above replacement, etc.
among hitters, he would be followed by hideki matsui (nyy), kenji johjima (sea), and then kaz matsui (col), for now.
among pitchers, you would have to look at dice-k (bos) and saito (lad).
