We drive on parkways because the word "park" here is not the verb "park" like "park your car" but it is a noun or adjective describing a green space in a city, and you can park on a driveway just like you can park on a highway but that isn't what it is for; it is to get from the garage to the street.
They sterilize the needle before lethal injection because needles come sterilized, and they wipe the skin because it is a habit.
A store that is open 24/7/365 might need to close at some point, like if there is a riot or hurricane. Besides, the door automatically comes with a lock.
Alarm clocks "go off" the same way a bomb "goes off."
Doctors call what they do "A practice" because it is what they practice. It is from Latin.
Dyslexia is hard to spell only if you can't see the roots from Latin and/or Greek.
