as mentioned above...it was a different time back then, less teams, different rules regarding drafting, and more of a chance to snag the best players from Quebec....with that said, i don't think ANY team will ever be as dominant as the Canadiens were in those times. I would be surprised to see any team win 2 cups in a row with the way the league is setup now, let alone 5 in a row....

First of all, prior to Maurice Richard's arrival in Montreal, they were a middle of the pack team. So, scratch the 1920s and 1930s from 'dominance'

Secondly, Montreal was only allowed to protect TWO french players per year. However, when there were 6 teams, you only needed 150 players, and the turnover was only 4-5 players a year. So, 30 new players from across Canada was relatively easy to get....Montreal could have Quebec!

Using the same rules today, players like Martin Brodeur, Luc Bourdon would still be on other teams as they were not among the top 2 QMJHL players drafted.

Keep in mind that this means Montreal would have had such duds as Alexandre Daigle as well.

Would they be dominant? I don't know. How many teams have won the cup lately based on players who played in the 'Q'? Only Tampa Bay comes to mind right now.

If they did that , I wonder what the rosters in Tampa, Atlanta, Carolina, Washington, Florida, St. Louis, Nashville, Columbus, San Jose, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Dallas, Anaheim, and Colorado would look like. I mean ofcourse they would dominate , 3/4 of the league would have to fold immediately leaving 10-12 teams to compete with and since there are no European teams , all the european players would not be in the NHL. Killing just about everyone else.

That same question could be asked in reference to many teams. They all question about the player that got away. Sometimes a player doesn't show up well until the move on. So move on player!

Are you saying that only the Habs should draft players from Quebec only?
