It requires a lot of things - Invest in the public goods infrastructure (eg big transportation webs) required for a functioning nation - Developed nations need to drop protective tariffs and subsidies supporting industries that developing nations have a comparative advantage in (if they can't export goods, they can't import wealth, so they will remain poor) - encourage competent and stable government - support education initiatives (ie in the 3rd world) a bunch of other things too, but that's what comes to mind right now. The first poster said that corruption is the only problem. That's entirely untrue. The core raped the periphery of resources for hundreds of years, and now even when the core nations claim they are helping developing nations, they still have protectionist policies against the imports that are the only products the developing world can produce. Additionally, traditions and philosophies of national government are so new to many developing countries (having been created by colonial powers when they decolonized) that governments are incredibly unstable. This makes it too risky for most banks and other sources of capital to invest in the necessary infrastructure.

First off working, and stop having freakin children by the dozens! Stupidity! Stupidity! Stupidity!

Homeless, and filthy druggies. They totally f-c- it up here where I live. They just gave up on taking care of the area. It's like a dump. How many times can you clean a place and have it re-ruined because of people that don't care about where they live. I just screamed at a lady for attempting to dump a tv in the alley behind my house. Then I looked over to my left and saw an abandoned car on the other side. They just picked one up two weeks ago!

People have a choice to keep things clean. That is always an option. If there are people contaminating this world, and nobody is there to put a stop to it than it cannot be fixed.

That's just talking about here in America.. G damn dump hole...

People who don't care about keeping things clean are like human rats. They are useless.

Considering how much money George W. Bush is wasting on his personal war in Iraq, we do have the right to blame him for poverty in the USA.

Imagine if he only spent half of the Iraqi budget on domestic improvements to help those in poverty. The message should be sent loud and clear to him that he has failed, and continues to fail, the country that he has sworn to represent.

As for personal contributions, I frequently donate to the food banks when I shop at the supermarkets and donate an extra $1 - $5 to feed the poor.

the answer would be to get myself an employment, lower down my contentment and most importantly observe family planning. Just by starting with myself and the assurance I would give to myself that I wont be below the poverty level. One less to the number of poor in the statistic. And if ever I have convinced you that my answer is right, make that two. so If we have around 6 million poor in the country. make that 5,999,997. See?

i don't believe america has a severe poverty crisis. there are those who are impoverished, but the numbers are relatively low in this country. although they might be higher in the philippines.

perhaps they need to improve education from the elementary level. the educated are less likely to end up homeless. they need to concentrate on the next genereation

thoughts of people should change, unfortunately, money has become prime source of life now a days.,
poverty cannot be ruled out, because mindset of people below the poverty line and above poverty line is one and the same.
nobody care for others.
*****your dream can happen only when people put a bench mark for self sufficiency. which will not happen.
**** i cant be that great man, i want lot of money,

Well... I'm not going to say it isn't the governments falt nor is it the systems. But what I think can be possible is to actually try to get the government to try and help. Somthing like a petition can go a long ways.
