In the McCartney case it isn't, i cannot understand how she can get all this money and it's still not resolved because he is contending the privacy part of the agreement, he doesn't want her writing a book, or giving out any information to friends, family who can sell on the story. I think she's a gold digger and he should have given her at most £10 million and provision for the child and that's it.

As a couple of people already stated, it's half the assets earned WHILE MARRIED, not half the assets in general. Anything that was his before the marriage stays his after the marriage, so you're info is way off, at least in the U.S.
I was married to a Loser once who I ended up supporting and who destroyed my credit, so don't think it's always the woman's fault.

It's not very fair, if she had given up her freedom, career and raised a family then maybe so but in the Mcartney - Mills case I think it is grossly unfair. The courts in this country encourage women to declare domestic violence so they can get maximum pay off. A heated verbal aargument is classified as domestic violence. My husband has been going through the courts for three years trying to get access to his son because of his ex claims domestic violence simply because they had verbal arguments! the courts have become extremely unreasonable in this country not looking at sensible facts like length of marriage, contributions by both parties and children. I was married 18 years before I divorced 5 years ago and i didn't get 50% even though I made equal contributions and raised our child.

Because a marriage is you and your partner becoming one person.
You are building a life together and when you divorce the court is trying to give both parties a fair start at their new life even if the money is divided unfairly.
The whole point of getting married is because you love that person so much you want to be together forever and be a family. The court assumes that you know that person well enough for making such a decision to spend the rest of your life together.

Yes. Life is very hard in Egypt and this is one of the ways. They are very thankful for the Internet to help them achieve this. They are snake oil salesmen that will tell you whatever you want to hear and sweep you off your feet to get out of their country. They will use you and go back to marry their own women. Its sad but true because it happened to me. Don't fall for it. I was hurt especially since I had a child. But I believe in Karma. What goes around, comes around. They are cheaters, scums, love money, liers, and its not even worthing visitng the country. They will do anything and its not real.

Women dont always get half. It depends on how long they were married. I was divorced after 6 years and I left him everything. He made all the money and had a very large 401k that I never touched. What did I get?? I got him not paying any of the bills that both of our names were on, just to be an ***. Now a year and a half later im still trying to get him to pay for his truck. Its not always women. Men are jerks too.

If you are referring to the McCartney case, there is an old saying: There's no fool like an old fool".
He gets everything he deserves, her history proved what she was before he married her..
In any case, why does an old idiot like him need £825 million, it's obscene, you can't say he's earned it. He's stolen it from gullible people over the years who have had to pay through the nose for a recording.

Actually, in most states, property that was acquired before marriage remains separate at divorce. It is only when it is commingled or voluntarily placed in joint names that it is subject to division. Property acquired during the marriage, and still on hand at the time of divorce, is divided either equally or "equitably" between the spouses, depending on the laws of the particular jurisdiction.

I always thought Heather Mills was in it for the money and the fame, as to receive around £60 million for a few year of marriage seems ridiculous wrong. if i was Paul Mac, I'd make sure she didn't have a leg to stand on !!!!

Get a prenup. And your question is kind of sexist...dead beat husbands can get half of their wife's assets as well.
