i am 35 weeks. we packed mine this week.
i put four nightgowns for myself in. two nursing, two that button down, a robe, slippers, a pair of fuzzy socks, a jogging suit outfit to come home in, overnight maxi pads for afterbirth bleeding, 2 outfits for the baby, and i'm getting nursing bras to put in as well. i still have to purchase those. my mom helped me as this is my first pregnancy as well.
i think some of the pregnancy websites have lists as well. they are more detailed and inclusive.
good luck.

My baby came at 36 weeks but I know others that came even earlier. I would start getting things organized. I made a separate bag for me and baby. Although, I would suggest you only have clothes for the baby unless you have special preferences because the hospital supplies all the diapers, formula, (if you are using that) and even send some home with you. I am so neurotic I had a separate labor bag and a stay in the hospital bag. I am glad I did. That way when we went into the hospital I only had the small labor bag. Then once we were moved to the mommy/baby room...my husband brought up the stay in the hospital bag and took the labor bag to the car.

Congrats gal. U are almost there. Best thing is to pack the bag now. U dont lose anything by being ready. For what to pack, visit the pregnacy sites. They have very good advise there which will guide u also depending on the season where u are. I rely a lot on about.com, I believe there are others out there too.
All the best. Its my first baby too and Im still at 20 weeks.

You could pack your bag at any time, and have it ready when the time is right. The baby will decide when it is time to come out. There is no set time limit. Both of my children were 10 days over due by when the doctor said that they would be here. My daughter had her son exactly on the due date, and had her daughter 3 weeks early. You should pack, nightgown, robe, slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush/comb, and alot of film for the camera. For the baby you should pack 1 outfit to come home in, a blanket, and babybook. Good luck to you. Children are such a joy.

I packed my the day before my planned c-section. First babies don't usually come very quickly. You will probably want to wait out the beginning of the labor at home (much more comfortable than a hospital bed!) I would think that packing your bag while waiting out contractions would be a good way to pass the time (provided you made a list ahead of time so you don't have to think). The moving around will be good for you. Plus if you forget something it's not like the hospital won't have toothbrushes or hospital gowns.
Take your own pillow and BIG comfortable elastic waisted pants/shorts for coming home...Best piece of advice that no one gave me. That whole "take the maternity pants you wore when you were around 6 mos prego" is bologna! I wanted LOOSE things around my belly!

Well you just never know if your baby wants to stay in or come out early! I would have it packed just in case although I waited until the day I had to go to the hospital. It is best to be ready

It makes absolutely no difference what-so-ever. If you go to the hospital with no bag packed, and no advance notice, your family, or the hospital charity will help you. You have nothing to worry about. There are other people who will help you.
Your only concern is to take proper care of yourself, including eating properly, and exercise according to the doctors instructions to help the baby develop.
Do not worry about anything else.
