Rule 8: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 9: Doing your best may well satisfy your Mommy and Daddy, but the rest of the world will be completely unimpressed.

Rule 10: If your social life is more important than your commitment to the work you choose, you should be prepared to eat irregularly and sleep outdoors.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but these are good. I guess they would be funnier if it wasn't that so many people don't seem to know these rules. They are just too true. I missed your first 7, but I am sure they are equally good.

I think its sad how many people define themselves according to their work or careers. How empty and meaningless. Go ahead and impress your mommy and daddy. They sacrificed everything for you. Be grateful. Show them they did well as parents. Love them and care for them. The world is mostly demented and doesn't really care about you at all. Your employer isn't interested in anything more than using you as a resource to accomplish its desired goals. Go ahead and use what you experience at work as a counter-example of how to be a high-quality human being. Find yourself anyway. Save up that vacation time and take as much of the summer off as you can. Never let your love and caring for friends and family take a back seat to your soulless career. People matter. Love is the most important thing.

Yes, these are some good rules, I saw pt. 1 also. I don't have grandkids, but these are good guidelines for most of us. There's a big world out there and we're not the center of it.
