To perform basic tasks like oil changes the shop may train you. For more advanced tasks, and it gets far more advanced, a trade school is the idea. Become certified.
I'm a pretty good mechanic, but have no certification, I've learned through experience over many years. But I don't qualify to be hired as a mechanic at a shop.
There are plenty of schools of schools to choose from, UTI comes to mind.

enroll in shop class if you are in high school. There are also adult education classes available. Read shop manuals, hot rod magazines, and anything car related that you can. Hang around gas stations, if they will let you, or garages and ask if you can help them out, just for the knowledge. If you know any back yard mechanics, watch them work on the cars. Most of the old guys will help out the younger guys and teach them what they know, if they are interested and respectful.

good luck.

There's the obvious way, a tech school. You could apply at a local salvage yard and see if they'll let you tear some stuff apart. Nothing helps you understand the insides better than seeing them.
