I've heard that the artificial sweetner in diet sodas can cause migraines and maybe siezures in those who are suseptible to seizures. Has anyone else heard of this?

Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure. It was discovered by accident in 1965 when James Schlatter, a chemist of G.D. Searle Company, was testing an anti-ulcer drug.

Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death.(1) A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include: HEADACHES/MIGRAINES; dizziness, SEIZURES, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by ingesting of aspartame:: Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinson's disease, alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.

Aspartame is made up of three chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. The book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," by James and Phyllis Balch, lists aspartame under the category of "chemical poison." As you shall see, that is exactly what it is.

aspartame the chemical found in Nutri-sweet the sweetener used in most diet drinks has been implicated in some reports in having caused an increase in seizures, cancer, difficulty managing mood disorders, and there is a definite strong indication that many people have asparatame as a trigger for migraine headaches.

As mood disorders, seizures and migraines all involve neuro transmitter pathways, it is highly likely that these issues are related.

I advise all my patients with any neurologic issues (to include mental health issues) to avoidt the use of asparatame and products containing or labeled nutri-sweet.

The aspartame (NutraSweet) found in most diet sodas is a posion to most peoples' systems. This compound was discovered by J.D. Searle and the FDA approved it using what some say were falsified test results from its manufacturer.
I have a sister who started having seizures after drinking Diet Coke and I myself experienced a mild depression and forgetfulness after using Equal in powdered form long ago before it was even added to sodas. The site information on it also says that it can cause brain tumors.
Look up "aspartame" on the internet and see that the majority of sites listed include the word "toxic", "controversy" or "poison". I'd personally rather see people drinking soda with sugar if they insist on drinking the junk.
