You need to go someplace that has WiFi (wireless internet) service. These services can be free, or they can be for-fee services. If you are using dial-up at home, then I guess that you don't have WiFi.

If it's a new (in the past 2 years) notebook computer, then it almost certainly has a wireless card built into it.

The easiest way to get started is to find a place with free wifi--you can start looking at this online directory here: http://www.wififreespot.com/ or this directory: http://www.jiwire.com/search-hotspot-locations.htm

Again, be sure to look for free spots. Most places that charge, charge too much. Starbucks charges $10/day at most of its locations (although lately they've been quietly offering free service at a few of their shops).

If you can't figure out how to get connected, ask somebody at the WiFi spot. It's easy and I'm sure somebody won't mind spending a minute showing you how it's done.

Enjoy--you'll probably be excited at how fast wireless internet can be.

Your computer probably does have the capability to use high-speed wireless Internet, but you have to buy high-speed service from your phone company or cable company to use it at home. There are other locations where you can use high-speed like coffee shops and Internet cafes. If you want to be able to use the computer all the time, no matter where you are, you can buy a card that works like a mobile phone for your computer to hook it into the Internet.

globe, network, then click on network and sharing center

the second option is connect to a network.. and then just pick one and you're good to go

it will work wherever there is a wireless network (starbucks, barnes and noble, and some hotels)

if you want it in your home you have to get an ISP, just like you did for your dial-up.. try and go through your phone or cable provider.. then you need to hook that up to a wireless router

if you want it EVERYWHERE go to your wireless phone store and get a card..

if it has 'high speed' capability it means it is compatible for you to use that sevice

however that service IS NOT free

you need to contact a company that would give you this service (either a cable company or a DSL provider)

contact an internet provider in your area and ask about their wireless internet. you must be enrolled first in their system before you can get mobile internet.
