Bluegrass is a sub-genre of country music, muck like Honky-onk, Nashville Pop, Western Swing, etc.

Known as "folk music in overdrive", it is the only genre of American music whose creation can be attributed (more or less) to one person-Bill Monroe.

Unlike other styles of country music, bluegrass is still almost exclusively an acoustic form. It is known for harmony singing, a solid guitar/bass rhythm and instrumental breaks and fills by mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and less frequently, guitar, dobro, etc.

If you are interested, there are many incredible bands/recordings in the history of bluegrass-try Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Jim & Jesse, Jimmy Martin, Del Mc Coury, Lynn Morris, etc.
Seeing bluegrass live is the best-its like ballet watching the various members move to the microphone for their turn.

About all country music started out as Bluegrass, then southern counrty(more gospel music) started to blend in and a more counrty sound came along(Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzel, even Johnny Cash and more too) and more and more people tryed to sound like the new country singers of that time! Bluegrass Music stayed the same and country keep changing until it is what we have today!

Bluegrass is a part of country genre, I usually associate it with music from the mountains/hills, usually more basic sounds, instruments like ,fiddle, banjo taking a larger part than in main-stream country.
At least that's my idea of it

Bluegrass always has real musicians performing the songs. You can't fake bluegrass music, it doesn't come from studios, computers, or props (the cute people they put on stage to sing someone else's song); bluegrass is authetic and comes from the heart.

The most widely accepted definition today seems to be that bluegrass is played mostly with acoustic instruments while country can be played with electrical instruments and drums.
